I just have a question... Is it okay for me to try out for a male part if I can alter my voice? I have Audacity, so I'm able to make my voice deeper. If not, I'll be happy to try out for the female parts only.

Oh no. Trust me. I'm VERY picky with voice acting. I would never post an audition I wouldn't be happy with myself. In Audacity, I can change the pitch without changing the speed, which is pretty awesome. :)
