This is a great video for teaching my preschooler about volcanos. The real life videos are a little too scary for her. (She doesn't really need to see a truck being engulfed in lava.) Thanks for posting it.

No. With the steam and glowing properties, it seems hot but for safety it is actually just room temperature. It is not even toxic, although I wouldn't recommend drinking it.

We needed it to be mostly water for safety but to get the effect we used a safe fluorescent orange dye and some additives commonly used in paint that increase the water's surface tension. This makes it appear heavier and thicker than it really is. To shoot it in the air we used pumps but we injected the mixture with compressed air before pumping it up.
