In my opinion, men may have been forced to marry their non-engaged rape victims, may have been the only way for the rape victim to ever be married because of the shame and condemnation that would be associated with that person who was raped. This was a way, I think, to make it "right". Today, in a similar situation, a rape victim could forgive the rapist. Grace and forgiveness are abundant in the new testament but not so much in the old testament. Just my thoughts though.

Whether he changed his mind or what after he sacrificed himself to himself, it still seems pretty mean to destroy cities (and the world) because a few people didn't constantly shower him with attention seems pretty mean. And what you said is a common excuse by modern apologists, but every apostle in the bible testifies that the old testament is also God's law and completely canon.
