  • goosebumbs!

  • Well sung but she can't do sad-classy like Judy.

  • Perfection! x

  • does anyone know how far back this song goes?

  • @1300PEREZ composed for the film A STAR IS Born 1953 ,Judy Garland sings the song in one take.

  • Considering how much traffic there is on here for this song I can ony say "you really are brilliant Lauren" Interesting that eveyone elses voice gets compared to Laurens - must be that hers is the best. I thought so anyway- cant wait to see her in WWRY x

  • for me this was slightly OTT, it lacked subtlety

  • and sorry but i prefered Jessie Buckley's version of it, more truthful and believable imo. lauren still looked liked she was kinda smiling when she was meant to be angry/heartbroken

  • @roseschocolate1991 I had goosebumps with Jessie. Just soooo much emotion filled in one song. She did Judy credit.

  • No doubt about Lauren always had an amazing voice, so for that respect she was a brilliant performer. its just i sometimes found her acting a bit fake or ott ; and it wasn't truthful or believable. which is why she wasn't my fav. i only started to like her and enjoy her performances more, from the semi-finals. mainly i think due to the brilliant danielle and lauren duet of 'Popular'.

  • Andrew's reaction to this was slightly more subdued than his reaction to Jessie's performance of the same song... LOL.

  • this is pretty bad. her voice is good, but I can't tell if she's supposed to be heartbroken or constipated

  • Lauren is a phenominal performer, having seen her live i can confirm it! But nothing could ever beat Jessie Buckleys Version of this song on I'd do Anything! x

  • @TeamStephFearon nothing? how 'bout Judy Garland's original...

  • @frendyde Call me crazy but I actually prefer Jessie's! I'm a big Judy fan but in this instance i'm afraid the Buckley Wins in my oppinion! x

  • All the way through, I really didn't like Lauren, I thought she was corny and melodramatic. However, this performance is just exceptional. She became an actress here, not just a singer, and she kicked my old opinion about her where it hurt: fantastic performance!

  • This isn't a patch on Jessie Buckley's version.

  • @kathirosex agreeeeeeed!

  • Her voice is incredible! The emotion she put in to this is amazing...thank god she didn't win, it would have been a huge waste of her talent!!

  • Her singing is okay, but you need ONE HELL of a voice to pull of a Judy number - which Lauren hasn't got. It's not believable, she's too young and therefore the acting isn't believable, like phmike69 says. Her actings fine but not sophisticated enough for this song...

  • @Erictheeviltwin it's not about age, it's about experience. at 18 i've felt the emotions expressed in this song and been in that situation which Lauren maybe hadn't.

  • @TheCherryBomber1 But doesn't experience come with age, and is that not what this song is about? Learning that what you foolishly, back then, percieve as your true love - the one that got away - wasn't as good as you thought he was? I don't think she acted this as well as she could have, which is what tells me that this is not believable. Age is regardless, it's her acting that counts, and she doesnt pull it off for me in this song.

  • @phmike69 my sentiments exactly.

  • pure raw natural talent

  • It's funny isn't it, Lauren is a great actress when singing but when she was doing diaglogue she was awful.

I think she should do something like Les Mis or Evita which is singing all the way through.

  • She over-articulates some of her consonants but she surely can sing. The Phantom of the Opera composer looks like such a sad sack.

  • Damn, the emotion bursting from her

  • got on the tube and so that she's sandy is greese. she could do so much better!

  • Good but Jessie Buckley was way superior in my opinion..You need to be able to act really well to pull this off and in comparison to Jessie(who is much younger than Lauren), Jessie's was a more mature and polished believable performance..Lauren is a nice singer but there is something missing i cant quite put my finger on .

  • she's amazing, but there's still something missing...

  • @theoneandonlySS1995 She's playing Sandy on the Westend right now

  • It's not a theatrical song. its an emotional song. judys voice had soul and emotion in the song, this girl has niether. but b- for trying

  • @xtinamadonnafan true, but seeing as this is a musical theatre competition, she's going to bring out more of that aspect into it.

  • god i h8 her! hav u noticed wen she sings sad songs she pulls a turbo-wedgy face? I think shes TRYING to look sad!

  • @toodlesxx that was the most stupid & pointless comment ever lol. she wants a career in musical THEATRE - of course she's trying to look sad when she sings a sad song. shes not going to do it with a huge smile on her face is she?

  • @georgiemayx too right, very pointless

  • I don't know why but I can see her in Les Mis, playing Cosette. I really thought she would have been in the final two, but, awk well ;)

  • Honestly, Lauren is beyond Dorothy- she can get much more challanging and sophisticated parts in any west end musical.

  • She performed this very well, just not my dorothy

  • This gave me goosebumps. Wow!

  • She's a good singer, but she's over-pronouncing the words.

  • Good vocal but they shouldn't have speeded the song up, it doesn't suit what the songs about.

  • I wasn't a fan of lauren, but this was good.

  • it pains me to say it, but she is almost as good as jessie last series. but only almost, jessie owns this song :)

  • She is soo good she should of won!

  • Clearly had the best voice, even if she wasn't as likeable as the other Dorothys. Another string performance, but my favourite has to be the week before this one.

  • She took a risk adding rubato to it, but she totally made it work. ahhh she should have won :( but at least she will go far in life, loads of people will probably want her :)

  • Gourgus voice :)

  • Good but not as good as Jessie Buckleys version on I'd do anything!

  • @Jessyanna Not everyone shares that opinion but its nice for Jessie to have fans.

  • i'm not a fan of lauren, but its a bit stupid to say shes sticking to what shes good at. of course she is! shes not going to think hmm.. im shit at this, so im going to do it infront of millions of people.

  • She does the same thing every week. For all I know, she might have a lot of character and humour, but I can't see it from the songs she performs. She lacks the naivity and innocence of Dorothy (not to mention that she looks too old) and I think she's far too melodramatic. I'll be gutted if she wins. She should have gone last week instead of Steph. Shit, she should have gone ages ago instead of Bronte.

  • @MisterLooKass She was taking on performances that some of the others wouldn't or couldn't. Works for me.

  • @NDawn I agree with you there, but I think she should of sung more songs that would of shown that she could be a Dorothy.

  • Jessie's performance of this in I'd Do Anything was much better, much more subtle.

  • @mgrh001 Agreed, Lauren's performance is so contrived - Jessie's came from the heart.

  • @mgrh001 true but sometimes you just dont want to be subtle :P

  • She's the best performer there by far IMO. None of the others come close in terms of vocals, and her acting's fine for the stage - which is where the show will be performed after all. One flaw in this show is that we, the viewer, watch their acting from close-ups on a TV screen, which gives a false impression.

And, for the person who says Lauren's found her niche and is sticking to it - erm, they don't choose the songs, they're given them.

  • @pulrh

I totally agree! People seem to forget (or maybe are not aware) that Judy Garland was first and foremost an outstanding singer long before she got spotted by film producers; acting came later. Lauren's niche is excellence! As was the case with Ms Garland.

  • She is great I hope she wins love you lauren.

  • don't like it

  • don't really like it the movie hasn't got that much singing on it and Dorthy don't sing much its more of the acting and controlling the dog

Danielle and Sophie to win but i want Danielle to win best

  • This is one of my favorite Judy songs, i think she did a great job! More importantly she didnt do a cheap immitation of Judy and made it her own! I want her to win out of the finalists left! :)

  • Problem with her is that she can't act, or dance and I dont think she has sung anything up tempo as the others have - she knows her niche and is sticking to it. I dont think her voice is particularly pleasant on the ears either. I wouldnt pay to see her.

  • @blueneonrainbow

" she knows her niche and is sticking to it"

Erm, you do realise that the songs are given to them, they have no choice in it.

And to say her voice isn't pleasant is just stupid. She has the best voice there. Seems you just want to find anything and everything to criticise her on. What next "she's arrogant"?

  • BRILLIANT!!! I still think she overacts, and she's VERY cheesy when you see her as dorothy1 Sophie or Steph to win!!!

  • she is undoubtedly amazing!!! her singing is so professional and mature - that's why i hope she doesn't win. I hope she gets a better part than Dorothy. She belongs in something like Cabaret or Chicago. I just see her in higher places than on the stage with a tinman, a scarecrow and a cowardly lion :P

  • Arggggg - a bit in love with L. What superb singing.

  • I think Lauren is amazing! She has was it takes & ticks all the boxes! I think people are wrong to slate her for having training - don't we all have to train for a job we want??! Besides, I think without training she'd still nail her performances!

  • Although Lauren has a good voice, she sings emotions not characters.

  • @missbabyice I disagree i think this was pure acting in an musical theatre / Tv entertainment environment - entirely right for this audience and show - I must say i think she is superb

  • @suky2211 - But there was no story behind it. I didn't get any sense of a character.

  • @missbabyice I suppose I have to agree with Sheila Hancocks - her performance moved me deeply

  • I just watched Jessie's version.

I don't know if this is because I'm a big Lauren fan, but I seriously think Lauren did a better job, and has a better voice.

    X's

  • @scuzzbuzzproductions me too absolutely genuine performance - I love her

  • Beautiful.

    I really hope she wins.

She's the best one on there, followed by Steph.

Lauren has something extra special though.

Last night's results were so shocking.

    X's

  • Outstanding. She made this song her own.

  • she is the outstanding performer thios year. but thiswasn;t as good as jessie's version of this song in the nancy show

  • even though i didnt really like her Jessie did a better job of this song in Id Do Anything but i still this this is good

  • Professional, polished and a strong contender. Just as a matter of preference, she wouldn't be my choice for Dorothy.

  • @ANNAARWEN who is your Dorothy?

  • @livzter My preference is the same as his Lordship's :) I think Danielle has what it takes in terms of looks for the part, overall talent and stage presence. Presence, you can't buy it, teach it or fake it. She's got it.

  • @ANNAARWEN Did he say that Danielle is his choice? I don't think his choice always ends up the choice of majority of the public (who aren't on Youtube).

  • @NDawn No, of course he hasn't said it - yet. It was pretty obvious early on (maybe just to me??) in IDA that Jessie Buckley was his preference, and in the final he did say as much. I have the same feeling about his esteem for Danielle this time. I just hope she has the better outcome than Jessie did then, cos as you said, he doesn't always get what he wants...

  • Lauren is the best singer by far,and what a performance of this song! If she doesn't win this it will be a travesty,no one can compare to her performance and stage presence! She must make the final!

  • I thought she made this her own - acted it to perfection for such a young girl and vocally delivered with exceptional vocal control for a girl of her age. Lauren gets my vote - anybody can do twee numbers with props but this takes real commitment - and i too have been singing it all week which proves it must be memorable

  • i don't like her singing that at all nobody beats judy singing that

  • @XAnneTinkerbellX Somebody will, one day and all the dinosaurs will be still saying "Nobody beats Judy at singing that".

  • @NDawn nobody does. judy garland just did that song to perfection and some things just can't be the same with someone else. Wat u on about dinosaurs for ?

  • @NDawn Dinosaurs = old farts for whom, there were always better people at something in their day and have to go on about it.

  • I actually dident find anything so spectacular in this performance dannielle to win !!!!!!

  • @xmilliebonneyx gosh not sure what you think is good singing then as this was amazing - such raw talent so beautifully sung and acting superb

  • Once again poppy musical theatre murders a fantastic Harold Arlen piece! Sorry she's good at the pop musical theatre stuff, not this though.

  • @smileyraw I look back on Judy Garlands version, Liza Minelli's version and well that's what you pay serious money for and am glad she isn't trying to copycat them cos I hate copycats. For something she could only spend a week on and would be something you get for a small portion of the price of a theatre ticket it's. good enough. Nothing murderous about it, I had this song in my head all week because of Lauren. I should hate her.

  • Great performance. Love Lauren!!!!! I hope she wins, Danielle 2nd and Jess 3rd

  • Tbh i never really liked her all that much.. but after this performance and last weeks she's really starting to grow on me. :)

  • This girl is amazing - shes getting stronger every week - go Lauren!

  • Love her voice so much!

  • I didn't like Loren at first, but my god you can't argue with quality.

  • OMG she is the best at this by a mile - the rawness of this performance far out weighs previous performances of this song - a true young actress with an amazing voice - like John said "I love her"

  • *eyes widen* stunning performance (Y)

  • @Sianara001 she is such an AMAAAZING storyteller

  • personally, Jessie from I'd Do Anything was much better at this song....she seems to copy her in many ways - even pronunciation of some of the words, and gestures...and ALW did not have the same level of excitement as when he saw this performance compared with Jessie

  • @zoshbaj don't they all get told how to perform on this?

  • @zoshbaj

Agreeee I preferred Jessie .. But Lauren is pretty awesomeely awesome at this too

    ...

  • This girl is very good but as has been said Jessie from I'd Do Anything was so amazing singing this I couldn't help compare and Lauren didn't match it for me. Danielle has been my favourite from the start and I'm so glad she's getting the praise she deserves now. Lauren is probably my second favourite.

  • she was the best last week....but not this week ...danielle and even jess topped her ..FACT

  • SHE IS SOO GONNA WIIN!!!

  • She is really good, but I think Jessie from 'i'd do anything' was much much better singing this.

  • very good, but not dorothy. Judging by the views Dannielle has got, people would rather go and see her as a Dorothy than any other girl in the competition.

  • incredible

  • Is it just me or is the standard of talent in this show higher than any other? Of course there are a few girls not quite there... but most of these girls have a LONG musical career ahead of them. Even if they dont get Dorothy they shouldn't be too disappointed... this have created great exposure of their capabilities. Lauren might not be right for Dorothy but she can sure hold an audiences attention night upon night, that I'm sure of.

  • @Aurora7

I disagree ... I think the level was better in Nancy, all the girls in that had the overall package whereas this there seems to be a few actresses a few better singers .. etc .. But lauren is outstanding !

  • @misstears002 Fair enough. I never watched I'd Do Anything, but I actually meant other shows such as Britain's Got Talent and XFactor. I kind of group all the Andrew Lloyd Webber shows together.

  • Lauren has a fantastic, natural voice and, with Danielle, has been my favourite since the start. I think Lauren just shades it on the voice but Danielle just shades it on the overall package. I think both, and probably 1 or 2 of the other finalists, will have very successful careers.

  • HER VOICE! omg

  • I have shivers. Far better the Jessie from last year. Effortless and flawless.

  • Bijzonder goed, wat er al niet leeft, zonder ontdekt te zijn!....

  • lauren's really good, but i just think that jessie buckley's version of this from last season had so much more raw passion and truth in it!

i'm not hating on lauren, just think that jessie's version was incrdible.

  • AMAZING! :D

    she has to win!!!!

  • @fionnaredhead I so agree her voice and stage presence are just unbeatable -

  • A bit, I don't know, out of time, but really good

  • I love her. She'll have an amazing music theatre career whatever happens!

  • Lauren is stunning. she amazes me EVER SINGLE week! Lauren is the best by far with a few other girls just behind her! I do hope she is not in the bottom two! But hearing from the judges comments, I don't think she will be XD PLUS she always hits the high notes!

  • Simply amazing!

  • meh! tooo breathy!

  • Wow - the favourite in our house - what a truly beautiful voice she has,,,

  • Lauren is geeting frightening with how good she is from week to week. This is one of the strongest acting performance there has been in this series but instead of suffering the vocal raise the bar again.

  • @TheHughLundy She's outstanding!!

  • wow she made me cry amazing voice!

  • Laurens professionalism and the experience just stands out. Lauren is good where Jessica needs to be good also in that Lauren can knock a few years of her age and pass as a 16 year old. Very polished.

  • brilliant...simply

  • Comment removed

  • Great performance.

  • Great performance!!

  • A total ripoff of jessie buckly (i'll do anything). right down to the hand gestures. Did she practise with a copy of her sining or what? Sadly not as good though.

  • @djflipme it's very different!

  • @chillit15chilli

To each their own mate - sophie to win!

  • This was a good performance. - 8/10

  • The best by far. she had better not be in the bottom two this week or I'll be angry. But judging this outstanding performance I don't think she will be
