@Bababyblahs Yes...its a good question....Why a church? For this you have to understand the mentality of the era that is being shown. These zamindar types in Bengal in the British era wanted to be "honorary Englishmen". Anything that the British did was considered a sign of civilization. Hence the mention of the church is a very authentic depiction of the cultural inferiority complex of those times.
