I was lucky enough to see the original and touring production of "Miss Saigon." I watching all the videos of this production and I am very impressed. My high school could never have done anything as fine as this. BRAVO!!

I though overall it was pretty good :D the first singer did well and came off pretty genuine overall, the second singer was ok but the vocals weren't great and the movements were very "musical theater"..not natural you don't need to have blocking for each word, she wasn't very believable, KIM WAS INCREDIBLE! very real! very believable!

Kim is wonderful and her acting rules! i am jealous of this school! i really want to do this for an 8th grade show!
Good luck trying for eighth grade. They are barely letting high schools. Actually they're saying its inappropriate for high schools. I wish we were allowed to do it.

My high school did the same thing. They wanted to give everyone a chance to sing. Sometimes they made one character twins. Like Patty and Sally Simcock in Grease.

Everything wrong with this production is on the director. He should have told the Engineer to tone down the Gay camp and directed the chorus to at least give the appearance of activity and not just stand around in the middle of the stage all bunched together. That girl playing Kim deserved a better show around her.
i loved the engineer, frankly. i thought he was played perfectly. you're right about the chorus though, other than the leads this show is rather mediocre. considering that it's high school it's excellent though.
I've seen it multiple times. The early scenes are set in a seedy Vietnamese brothel where women are plying their trade. I'm aware that they're just doing it to get by and get out but that's what it is.
I'm sorry It wasn't intended to be personal, but I know a some people just wanted to see whores in that scene and it didn't make me happy, so I get grumpy and defensive when people make remarks like that it wasn't really just towards you. It's censored because one it's a high school production, and two it was a school in Texas and Texan communities are relatively conservative, we wouldn't want the little old baptist grandma having a stroke because of the little high school children being mature.
Yeah it's a high school. You guys should consider yourselves lucky because even censored, this would NEVER fly in my little Utahn community. We recently did "Peter Pan or the Boy Who Would Not Grow Up" (non-musical) and we got complaints because Tinkerbell says "you silly ass."
lol oh that's too bad I love that show, earlier in the year my school did Dracula, before Saigon, at a few places one of the characters says 'son of a bitch' and we had a little old couple walk out of the theatre and report it to the RH line, in essence it was pretty funny, but people react differently to things. Personally I loved the show, I saw it two and a half times. it was great! and I don't think the effect would have been the same without the cursing. It works with some shows, not all.
i agree...i dont get the americans when it comes to the censurship (sp?) i mean it not okay to use that line in a show...but its okay to own guns, and drive when your are 16 ...to me thats just being over sensitive...and dont try to tell me that none of the cast would ever use that word in everydaylife...
i thought the line went Screw like boys?, and i guess you have to change certain words because its a secondary school production. however Kim and Gigi are essentially prostitutes,as are most of the female cast, surely if they are going to let that facter play out, they could a word - a Directors issue.
loved it when the ensemble came in at the end, every good, as were "kim" and "Gigi"!!
the first girl was much more fitting for the role of Gigi- her voice was a lot more mature (minus the pronunciation... she could have made it sound a lot more mature)
Honestly, who ever your chorographer is, he or she had so much she could have followed the original but seriously its too much standing, you could have done some blocking.

1st singer's part was too low for her, but she did fantastically.
2nd singer looked like she thought she was too good, yet i say she was very flat throughout, and the top vocals were not strong enough.
