Who the fuck is interessted inthis camera movement! There is not even Arnold Schwarzenegger in the scene so why think about it?!! I want a Red One! PS: Canon sucks... give me 24p firmware!
Theres some bitter wannabes out there, destined to be Movie Critics rather than Directors or DOP's I guess!
I was only told about 'Red' today as I got wind of someone i know whos shooting a documentary on one here in the UK. It seems a very 'brave' attempt at altering the mould, i just hope the global market lets this company fill their potential slice of the market, before they blitz the industry with mass branded alternatives.
'And it's not true that camera movement can become dull' really man, isn't this all just a matter of opinion? Come on guys lets just take it easy. I'm just saying I don't like the movement of the camera in this shot, really...who cares. By the way there's a comment made by me 2 weeks ago where i confess to be a 'dumb shit'. This maybe true but I didn't write this comment, somebody else who can't get a girlfriend and with a lot of time on their hands did it by getting into my account. x
i hate it when cameras move (like in this shot tracking left and right) for no apparent reason appart from to show off 'hey we have a track'. silly oh so silly
That's not a track you idiot, the Red One is a shoulder mount camera. Those cameras are extremely advanced are the best on the market right now. That's just good camerawork and a shoulder mount. A tracking shot changes perspective, this just moves back and forth, and BARELY moves at that.
You can shoulder mount this cam but you can still put it on a track, and i didn't say they're not advanced cameras. And this cameras on a track you fool, and it goes side to side, not back and forth, and if it was going back and forth...it would be changing perspective!
What are you smoking, and what film school did you fail-out of? The track on this shot was well-executed, and served the purpose of creating a dynamic tension to the scene...which is obviously necessary to a shot of a beatup guy who's spying on someone...or, it simply adds some interest to the shot. Tomes55moon...I'd LOVE to see what you've done with film. Links?
Yeah this track shot is well executed, i.e. it does move back and forth smoothly, composition stays nice blah blah blah. But i just happen to have a little pet hate with films that can't hold any real interest with their story and compensate for this by moving the camera on every shot, thinking it adds a professional, arty film edge. The more you move a camera about in a film, the more you desensitize their use and eventually they become dull...
i respectfully disagree, i think motion such as this in a shot can, if used properly, add a touch of mystery, or other feels to a specific shot, the person who commented on this is most likely either an extreme amatuer, is jealous he or she doesnt have a red one, or doesn't have a genuine appreciation/understanding for cinematography, because you have no way of knowing what the director of this was intending the final product of this shot to be
well to be honest i think m a dumb shit! sounds sarcastic but i do i dont no nything about films but i like to act as if i do! you guys are right im being stupid! im such a fool. Sounds sarcastic but i have come to agree with your points!
the camera movement didn't seem obtrusive or draw attention to itself, hence to the artificiality of the medium. It's very difficult to judge its meaning, cause it's just a take and there's no linkage with previous or after shots, but it perfectly blends with the movement of the actor and helps the atmos and feel they wanted to create. And it's not true that camera movement can become dull, u just have to find a balance and it needs to be motivated. Which is what happens in this case.
I NEED this camera.

What lenses did you use for the shot? It looks great.

So to clearify, this shot is achieved with a Fisher 11 dolly on a hard wood dance floor.
randyche0404 3 years ago
Yep that was a great shot.

and its not for no apparent reason even if it was on a track it brings life to a shot, every move has a reason, moron.
shefshofabsehr 3 years ago
'ever move has a reason'. what the hell are you on about, how can you say every move has a reason?
tomes55moon 3 years ago
BEARSin07--that wasn't handheld, that was a dolly shot.

a non-professional look can, and usually does, put the audience off what might have been a good story.
