Most guitar teachers haven't got a clue about tone, they use the nastiest sound. They're more interested in the notes but this guy's tone isn't as bad as most.
yes, it is. it is an F# minor pentatonic scale - thats the thing about the major pentatonics. you can play it playing one minor! if you know all the minor, just get down 3 frets (imagine you want to play A Major Pentatonic - play F# minor) if you want Cmajor penta, play A minor!got it?
that is, off course, if you start on the 1st minor pentatonic position. you got my point. get down three half tones of the root you want (imagine C) to play the major using an minor scale pattern (in this case, being a C major you want to play, play the A minor pattern - A, C , D, E, G).
