Despite looking for a copy for a long time its only recently (thanks to the web) I've been able to even find evidence of its existence. And there's no download version I can find.

Very nice. A lot of people asking about how to improvise, it's a case of practicing and having the skills to articulate what you feel, the rest comes from a different place where you feel the music, it's inutitive and almost subconscious. When both of those things come together you get the magic.

Btw is there a name for when you hum at the same time creating a distortion? It's used in alot of funk records.

After listening to the previews of Mr. McBirnie's music, I feel like this direction is really missing in his albums. I can never get into light jazz, bosa nova, latin etc. Some love it, I find it really, really boring. An album of harder, funk oriented flute improv I would buy in a heartbeat. Scratch It comes close, but the improv here just kicked my ass.

I've been working at improvising for years now...and, I admit, it took a long time to learn (...but then I am not very swift...)

I studied a lot of theory once upon a time...but I try not to think about it anymore...

The best way to learn how to improvise is by doing precisely what I am doing here; i.e., playing along with records. That is, in fact, how I started...and that is how I practice now....In fact, I am actually practising here!... :-)
