Is this not proof that his vocals are untouchable?  This is not an easy song to sing, and add to the fact that he sang without music.

In the future on AI, they should have each contestant sing the National Anthem acapella on finals night to determine who has the true vocal ability. Obviously the wrong person won for season 7!

funny u brought that up. because Michael Johns, Carly Smithson, and Syesha all sang the national anthem too. they all did a better job than the winner, david cook. its no secret that they are all better technical singers than david cook. unfortunately, simon cowell was not looking for the best singer. if so, archuleta would have won hands down, and david cook would not have made the top 5.

I think David Cook is just an "OK" singer. He has the scratchy voice that fairs well with rock songs. Anybody knows you don't need to have a good voice to sing rock. Singing anything slow, especially our country's National Anthem, requires tremendous vocal talent, and baby, he's got it!!! Compare the two National Anthems - DA undeniably left DC IN THE DUST!!!!!!!

I really am not a hater of Archie. I think he is a lovely person and sings nicely. I would just like to think that Archie fans can at least appreciate Cooks efforts as well. I was just trying to prove a point... if you want to , you can find fault with any thing. There is no National Anthem contest,and neither will be singing this on their albums.

did ya hear that bad note at 1:04? Even the echo and muffling tricks didn't cover that one up. His voice is well covered up through the whole song. Cook did not get that "benefit". Actually, I think they both tried their best for the time they sang this and should be respected for their efforts. The situation was different for both of them.

thats the point, when you take away all the spotlight, expensive musical instruments, some flashy back up musicians, we all know who shined, David Archuleta. No question. I knew it from the start that he had flawless vocals, and its sad that DC fans just cant admit that... Yet he beaten Cook at the Finale and the National Anthem... I felt so ashamed that he didn't win, without question, DA will have a long and bright career. Peace!

No he did not change the melody to much. Singers like Whitney Houston who are great can take chances and change it a bit even though I think it should not be changed. People who are not as good of a singer have to stick straight to the original. David did this beautiful. One of the best I have ever heard.

Even though I thought Cook should win Idol, Archie kicked his butt on the National Anthem. For disappointed Archie fans regarding Idol, I am relieved he came in second to an excellent older contestant like David Cook who protected and supported Archie like a little brother. This kid has a great voice and great career ahead no matter what. Second place gives this 17 year old a little space, a chance to breath. It takes some of the pressure off him. Syesha did a good Anthem for Tampa also.

u know the cook fans are gonna say cook's version was better. like most cook fans actually think cook did better in inspirational week and rock n' roll week. archie can sing cook out of the water and they wouldnt care. its really frustrating, because i'm an archie fan, but i acknowledge when cook has good performances. cook fans just need to stay away from archie's vids. they're really annoying with their negetive comments.

There are not enough word to describe just how beautiful Archie sings SBB after such an emotional day. His lower register has definitely deepened and his vibrato at the end - pure chills!

I was at Murray High when he sang and he DID AMAZING! However, I could tell at the end how tired he must have been vocally... I can not believe how well he did on this after Murray High, on top of the rest of his day. He really is SUCH a talented kid!

(P.S. For Archuleta fans, those videos of him singing at Murray High have been posted - picture sucks, but the sound is decent... He sounds amazing either way! Haha... )
