@cookingtheeasyway I lived in Jordan and Lebanon and most of the people I knew used tomato paste there too. They say it prevents it from becoming too stringy.
@bonzaibb12 , maybe some people like using it. when i cook mine it does not become stringy at all, so i guess it is all in the method you cook it or how long you let it boil or over boil. thanks for coming by.
Yes, this is how I make it! If you are using chicken or meat broth, it should have spices added to it such as bay leaf, cardamom, cinnamon, allspice, which makes it flavorful. but i usually cook it vegetarian so i add salt and black pepper to it. also the major flavor that is added to it is fried garlic and cilantro. i would be interested in knowing which spices you add to it. thanks for coming by.
this look realy delicious, but i gotta say, we do it a bit diffeantly than how u described it. u added no spices but the salt and pepper, when we do it we put a varaiety of differant ingrediants which make it unresistable. but as a whole, it just looks delicious. note: mulukhia is my most favorite dish. too bad I donno how it's made, but thx for allah we have the mother.
@kraitosofwar ,Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. There are many ways to cook any recipe. I usually add only salt and black pepper to Mulukhia, but the I have to admit that the major ingredients that gives Mulukhia its nice flavor is garlic and fresh Cilantro. The recipes on the video are both vegetarian, sometimes i add cardamom to the water to make it flavorful. you may add meat or chicken broth to Mulukhia, of course the broth would be flavored with other spices of your choice. Thanks!
WOW this is somthing Ive been looking for for so many years, but didnt know the name of it, Im so excited! Although I dont know where to get molokhia leaves from but theres an arab store around the corner Im guessing they should have them, about the cilantro, cant you use frest too is that fine? I mean corriander (same thing but some ppl only use one of those names)
@cherokiimslm , glad you found the recipe at last! since you are in the states, you will find Mulukhia at most middle eastern stores in the freezer section. it is available in frozen leaves or fine cut form. Yes, you can use fresh Cilantro/Corriander, whatever you call it, it is the same herb. You may make it using chicken or meat broth, some people add chicken or meat to it too. good luck and i hope the recipe works out for you.
To tell you the truth, i do not know! but you may try with any leafy vegetables such as spinach or something similar to it. you do not have Mulukhia where you are?
hi there i just subscribed to ur channel! u have great recipies could u tell me how to but beef or chcken in this recipie please like when and wat type would be great because m cluless at this my husband likes it with beef or chicken but i dont know how also could u do a arabic fish recipie pleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeeeee????
marescape, thanks for coming by and leaving a comment...true, this is not the classic recipe we all grow up with but i had to develop this method and recipe to satisfy my vegetarian husband! thanks again for your comment.
That must be a bit challenging for you to have a vegetarian husband, and cook arabic food because a lot of arabi receipes call for meat in it. Cook on sista!
how does the traditional way go? I m in the unlucky position that I never had Molokhia but everybody is telling me how nice it is so...on my next visit to Egypt I will ask for it
You cannot claim that mulukhia is ONLY egyptian!! because it is used widely in many countries in the middle east and in Asia too, i meant southeast Asia and Japan too...in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Jordan they cook it whole leaves with lots of garlic and cilantro, and it has been made this way for ages...Egyptian Mulukhia is prepared with little little difference but by all means still good with rabbits or even shrimps too. thanks for you comment.
shukran akteer for the video! alla yard3alyki for helping us learn the secrets of arabic cooking! the way i learned mlokhya is by boiling the mlokhya in the broth and using a tomato to help take out the froth and then sauteeing garlic at the end. but your way looks ezka and i'm going to try it that way next time insha'allah!
I stopped buying mulukhia because I could only find it dried and it had all this dirt and rocks in it. Even after rinsing many times, it's impossible to remove all of it. Sometimes my Vietnamese grocer has it fresh but most of the time not. It's basically the same thing as spinach though.
MadamGul, i assume that you are living in the US, i suggest that you get your mulukhyya at the middle eastern stores, they have it in a frozen form, egyptian or lebanese brands in the freezer section.
people have different way of cooking this dish and i never let it boil at all...but the way i make it is very easy and very delicious! :) thanks for coming by.
This recipe is totally wrong!!!! I am not sure why this person would bother putting this recipe on line if he¨/she did not know how to make Molokheia. Look for the right recipe elsewhere.
u didn't use the tomatoe paste !!

@haifab1 , I do not use tomato paste. i think only Egyptians use it with Mululkhia.

Can I substitute other greens for Mulukhia leaves? What would be a good substitution?

@cookingtheeasyway
you can't substitute mulukhia leaves with something else. Regular Spinach wont give u the special taste of mulukhia.
CometReiki 1 year ago
@CometReiki , i agree, i think it is not easy to replicate the same taste of Mulukhia with any other leafy vegetable.
