The reason why Science has little public policy clot, is because science has failed in the past 30 years to inspire, to create that WOW factor of the like of the nuclear age and the space race. They have failed to connect on the emotional side, of which can be understandable, science is naturally unemotional. What is needed is the feeling of risks associated to a challenge. Not like the "safe" Mars rover endeavors of the last decade...
