I looked up the lyrics... it appears they intend for the song to be about suicide. A slavish (and very indie) devotion the 'iceberg principal' keeps the story from really making too much sense. The speaker seems to be arranging keepsakes, cataloging his/her life, prior to hanging himself with a belt. I don't know about the "Im gonna hold a pen while you drag my arm across the page" lyric. I don't really care that much, but if you've got a better reading, I'll hear it.

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know. Not to diminish the authentic beauty of this song, I've found that Americans of this generation mostly lack the attention span to create really meaningful lyrics. It's especially true in the indie scene.
