Take a look at the lens prices (large difs between the big players sony, nikon, canon) and the cam features. If you go for reports/journalism/sports you should consider a cam with high picture per second rate... if you go for landscape or makro I would look for the sharp lens and a low noise sensor. If you do Sports you might need many AF points if you do Makro, you will focus by hand and don´t need any AF points... thats the cruel trues. Sensore size matters for dof and wideangle, too.
@10mism you are wrong. In this class of camera you want best AF for fast focus to get sharp pictures even in dimm light, you want a fast backend to get the very right moment (photos per second), the most sensitive sensor to minimize noise and the sharpest lense. 5-6 Megapixel is enough for screen and sitefilling prints. Screenresolution is very low and newspaper and even most magazines have a low resulotion, too.

@HjorturTheDawg its not about megapixel... it is about using the right tool for the right situation. You can not shoot a concert or soccergame with a H4D 200....
How curious this is. The EOS 1D-X had it's first presentation this week and will be shipped in march 2012.
The Formula 1 race in Monaco is in may, that means their product was ready quite a long time ago and no one noticed it and production will start looonng after the actual use of the prototype.
