you're an author and a journalist? check your facts, you dumbshit. if his salary is $29m, that means he dedicated 69% of his salary! who wouldn't applaud that? and that's to this cause alone. do you know that he did not pledge other money elsewhere? he didn't have to donate a single penny. did you donate 69% of your salary to anything?
@coffeecreamcake He does not donate his personal money. The money comes from the ATT Foundation. ATT gets a tax deduction for every dollar they donate, so it is good business to make tax-deductable donations.
umm he isnt entitled to give money for anything, at least he giving something, just because he is rich does not mean he is just suppose to give his money to help out others. People need to stop having that mentality that the rich will be there to catch them when they fall. Rich people are where they are because they put in alot of hard work to get the things they got
lol....i liked listening - for about 2 minutes....then i realized the whole conversation doesn't make sense.....29 million...and he donates anything......is good enough for me. plain and simple.
Get A Life! First of all, you don't know the first thing about Mr. Stephenson and the time, dedication, and money he has given to helping others not only through AT&T, but other non-profit organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America (of which he is a large contributor and active volunteer) and the United Way. These kind of character attacks on people trying to do good make me sick. Why don't you go out and donate some time/money to helping other people instead of attacking others efforts?

At&t DSL is not Unlimited anymore. 150gb per month cap allowed . there stock is doing really well still. just make sure you keep an eye on how much your using daily
@MunkeyTouch He didn't give 20 million dollars out of his own salary... It's AT&T, a huge corporation. The only time they give money away is if there's something in it for them. In this case, giving 20 million dollars away buys them public relations, which by the way, is a tiny amount of money compared to how much AT&T has. Trust me, AT&T is my client and they would never give money away out of the goodness of their heart.
tax deduction....come on man any big company does that....and ONE man can't fix wireless issues....but I bet if you were the one getting millions a year your tune would be different.
he actually makes 15 mil a year and is 59th in highest paid executive in us. Still a lot of money. A lot of angry people say he does not desirve it. But do we say entertainers dont deserve thier money. At&t represents the internet where we have the freedom to do just about anything . So much knowledge and help and information is on the internet. trust me he is not the enemy. The enemy is the private owners of the Fed reserve. Dont believe me, do your reserch
let me start with a big ol shush! you sir are a complete idiot...do you even give money to anyone but yourself? Come on at least he is trying please when you even make that amount of salary you can talk.
are you serious? dude gave almost 70% of his yearly salary to this cause and you are ripping on him? PR or not how can you knock it? If you can make a better network you get out there and do it. AT&T is great in many places and mediocre in others. Same with all the major and minor carriers.
First, the comment about you've had a lot of friends say that ATT serivce is crappy.. Lol. You make yourself sound pretty ignorant. That is said about every major cell phone company out there. People have to have something to bitch about. Please, shh. Secondly, could you donate 20mill to the kids in the US, Please? He donated more than enough. Maybe he should drop 28 mill on it per year- would you be happy then? Like seriously.. this made me laugh. A lot. I feel sorry for you sir.
@ItskIly ATT has lots of dropped calls but you seem to have dropped your intelligence some time ago. I would suggest that you chose another carrier or get a GED.
@plato7771 You sir, are cute. I would give you a high five if possible. As for me, ATT has the best coverage where I am at, I don't have dropped calls nor do I have a problem of low signal. Soo- there is that to consider. I like how your 'come back' for anything is something about a GED. Props to you for being, well, unoriginal. I'm pretty sure that most people will agree he donated more than enough. Sorry he couldn't put out 30 mill for you. At least he is putting forth an effort on the issue..
@ItskIly randall stephenson is one of the worse things that ever happened to AT&T! The customer service with the company has gone down the tubes. He is only interested in one thing. Get rid of as many people as possible and replace them with lower paid workers. The call centers are being shipped to a 3rd world country. He didn't donate any money, the bean counters told him to donate that money to covers taxes. You must be a manager
So your argument is that he made 29 million and only gave 20 so he's evil or he's got an alterior motive? What do you want him to give? 29 million? 35 million?
How much did you give to that cause...or any other for that matter? Your only looking at one charity, how much did the company give total to all charities?
This is what you call....journalistic malpractice.
@bigv1999 That wasn't his money, it was company money. Randall Stephenson is one of the reasons this country is in the shape it is in. What has he done to deserve 29 million?
@Jowens213 The reason why ATT allocated the money was because they wanted a tax break and workers to hire for entry-level customer service reps. The CEO did not donate a portion of his salary to dropouts; he just makes more per year than ATT gives to try to prevent dropouts.
@plato7771 And that is the strategy most of the companies apply all the time. It's actually a win-win for all. Seems like you are stretching the concept. So, if Randall hadn't decided to donate the money and keep all 29 M to himself, you wont be complaining would you? If you say you would still be complaining, well... take the CEOs of all other companies and make a video of how they are not donating! See my point?
@abeworld I see your point, but who does the 100 million really help? Will there be a lot fewer dropouts because of it? No, and Randall knows that. What I am talking about is his sincerity. If he was truly sincere, he would have taken a different approach. He would have devoted more funds that exceeded his yearly salary. 20 million for the entire country is nothing--except a PR opportunity for ATT.
@plato7771 LOTS OF ISSUES HERE. 1. "Will there be a lot fewer dropouts because of it? No, and Randall knows that." - I am not sure how you reached that conclusion. There was an episode of This American Life which talked about this and the reason that was overwhelmingly noted was lack of funds and hence cost cutting. 100 M could be a big boost. Explain.
@plato7771 2. Devoting more than his salary is absurd. Unless he cheated his way to the top, the man 'deserves' everything that he is making. Now, if he decides to give 2/3rd of his income to charity, I don't see how you can twist it into something dishonest and selfish! 20M per year may not be much but its BETTER THAN NOTHING!! Again, should AT&T get PR for this? Why not... all agencies, celebrities do that. So, why not? The rules are in place regulated by the government for God's sake!
@plato7771 "If he was truly sincere, he would have taken a different approach. He would have devoted more funds that exceeded his yearly salary." - WHAT? ...and probably have serious financial issues after that!!?? And maybe not be able to donate after 5 years??!! How is that good or SINCERE?? Do explain.
@abeworld We are talking about a company that made 2 billion dollars in profit last quarter. That's profit--not revenue. 100 million dollars to ATT is like 100 dollars to us. In other words, it is nothing, except a way to get postive press coverage.
