@getmadgetmad "Parliament cannot bind its successors or be bound by its predecessors" Remember that principle? This state of affairs is like a scene from Animal Farm. The actions of these politicians, Labour, Conservatives and Liberals, is prima facie treason, and not binding no matter what they say. And to claim otherwise is the say we are no longer a democracy or our parliament sovereign! These actions are in fact so bad that not too long ago they would have been hung or imprisoned!
The EU is a scapegoat for politicians while the countries they represent profit from the increased trade because of the conditions a single market creates.
Only idiots who don't do their homework believe this crap, instead of blaming the politicians of their parliaments who use the EU as a scapegoat.
@getmadgetmad1 "The Tories - excluding oddballs such as E.Powell and N.Tebbit - never claimed that we wanted to leave Europe" - Some honesty at last from the fake Eurosceptics............
@getmadgetmad1 If there was a political will in the conservative party they could have called a referendum if they wanted too. They could also leave the EU tomorrow if they wanted to. They don't. Either continue with your delusion or face reality.
@getmadgetmad1 You better start getting used to the fact that there is a new party on the block and we really don't care or worry about the Mod-Cons..................
They brought the Lisbon Treaty into the UK illegally, therefore we can rip up such a crap idea. Just show them the Magna Carta. It forbids these elitist EVIL bastards from selling the British people into such slavery.
You have lost my vote Mr Cameron ...you simply cannot deny the British People their say. For god's sake it is plain to anybody what the Majority of the EU eurocrats want. Their own country, currency, army. How dare you not let this country have a say. I am disgusted with ALL our main parties. All the main parties know damn well a MAJORITY of this country would vote NO. Shame on the lot of you.
An elected government has NO right to give away it's power to unelected foreigners, without the public's permission. There is no escaping this fact. It's our right to decide who is governing us. I'm voting UKIP.
Re Cameron, I don't think he was trying to fool anyone but he kept his cards close to his chest in recent months - when it was clear the treaty was going to be ratified - due to the last conference coming up, which he didn't need dominating by Europe.
Something will happen and we will pull out of europe eventually. i don't believe we will become anymore integrated in the long run, but I'm sure that will happen under Labour. The referendum lock I think will work and Cameron mentioned something about ratchet clauses last Wednesday, but the idea of Europe dictating to us does seem very unnatural and perverse.
What a disgrace that the tory elites are members or affiliates of the Bilderberg group. I don't think anyone can argue anymore that this is a benign organisation. It seems to be full of hypocrytes and liars who are setting up a non democratic world where the rich can do what they want and the poor get worse of. Just look at Al Gores $30,000 electricity bill last year. That is more than some people earn in a year. Time to move away from all these corrupted and despotic people. Wake up. Vote UKIP.
The British people have had enough and would leave in a heartbeat. What is incredible is that Germany would also have rejected Lisbon joining Ireland, France, and the Netherlands. Indeed, the Austrians would vote to leave the EU as well. It's too idealistic to think Britain could get an EU it wants - time to have an in and out referendum. If we do stay in however, I think we should be fully in - with Schengen, the Euro and the Charter of Fundamental Rights. We're in or we're out.
The cowardly Tories will not do anything to stop the monolithic bureaucratic monster run by unelected career political thugs that know how to subjugate the people with lies and misinformation destroying national sovereignty, liberty & the right to self-determination. They secretly love the EU. However for me to vote UKIP (as I believe they are our last hope) they have only 6 months to prove that they can form a government and MUST be more aggressive & visible. To lose in May will be a disaster.
I will predict this. Within 2 years the EU will take away Britains ability to vote. Doing away with general elections, replacing it with Zone MEP elections. There will be Euro Police on our streets with greater powers that no British politician or Judge can question. When we are all subjugated in our massive island prison (all travel will be restricted) we can while away the time reading a poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller "First they came for the Jews" (If the EU has not burnt all the books).
Never in the field of human conflict was so much lost by so many to so few. We must never forget that all the time, night after night, month after month, our freedoms travel far into the EU, and are destroyed in the darkness by the highest political skill, often under the heaviest fire, often at serious loss, with deliberate, careful precision, shattering blows upon the whole of Britain and the free world.
As for the Irish!
Cowards die many times before their actual deaths. "Julius Caesar"
Asking for a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty and then saying we can't have a referendum on one that's been ratified? Hardly twisting words. You, however, Labour and certain sections of the media are becoming experts at it.
David Cameron can stick his sovereignty bill up his back side dose he think we are that dumb to believe that croc of shit.
the lisbon treaty is self amending and thats what effects and kills off our sovereignty also. i dont know how that git can stand there on sunday and say "i remenber thoughs who fell" what a bad joke this man really is,if any one has any sanity left vote ukip and not for thoughs who have robbed us of every thing.
It is possible to have a referendum, a referendum on europe !!! They wont have this cos they know we will say 'leave' and the cons dont want to leave.
The country would never vote to leave the EU based on the fact that there is a President, which isn't really a President (yet), and we have become more integrated for the moment. I think the no vote (not leave the union) would win hands down through dealing with the facts.
These are 61 areas of legislative and governmental competence that will be transferred from the UK government in Westminster to our new EU-government in Brussels, under the Lisbon Treaty. This is more than under all the other previous Treaties put together.
britain has to stand up for itself,we cannot accept a self amending treaty dictated by unelected foreigners forced on this country. mr brown has signed the treaty,- but he signed it for himself. with 88% of people demanding a referendum it cannot be considered legally binding on the country. mr cameron needs to insist that britain has not yet officially signed the lisbon treaty,...in the end however we need a full & fair referendum on staying in, or getting out of europe, i believe in next 5 yrs
This man is a Liar like all the leaders before him. His masters are in Europe not Britain. He cannot get power back for Britain. He cannot pick and choose which part of the treaty's he wants, any promise that he can is ridiculous and an utter falsehood. The only way to deal with our loss of sovereignty is to take it back by leaving the Union altogether, if we don't we are finished as a nation and a free people.
I like the textual comment on the vid at 1.30. Absolutely! It's a rather fundamental part of British constitutional law and theory that no parliament can bind its successors or be bound by its successors. And the reason is because parliament is sovereign and supreme, whereas a bound parliament would not be so. And Hague, a pretty learned man in these matters, knows this, yet he toes the party line on this. How disappointed I am in him, a politician I have genuine respect for.
I am a UKIP supporter. I never vote UKIP, however, at General Elections, because they have no chance of winning a thing. BUT, with this move, I have just officially changed from voting Tory at the upcoming election. I will now NOT vote Tory, solely because this move speaks volumes about Cameron's party as it is. I will vote UKIP; if UKIP do not stand in my constituency, I will vote any other party. But Not Labour and Not the CONservatives.
Too right! You just know that none of the major parties would dare ask the question. Cameron knows that that there is no need for further Treaties or constitutions as Lisbon is self ammending. What price democracy?
It's an excuse. When the cons get into power. Just hold a referendum. Don't they understand the whole point of a referendum is to allow the people to go against the status quo.
"Its no longer possible to have a referendum on Europe"
What utter bullshit!!! We should have an agreement like Norway or Switzerland who pay pennies to get all the benifits that we or any other European country pays.
Even the countries in Europe can vote. Who says that a law cant be unmade, that policies cant be rethought!!
Unfortunately I would say that Mr David Cameron does not serve Britains interests and indeed serves the global agenda that he weakly tries to dismiss!
I think that Mr Cameron kept silent over discussing a referendum for Britain was because he knew it was going to head this way, so he could say something like... 'well sorry but its too late for a referendum, but I really wanted one'.
I may be wrong but at the time of writing, I do not think I am :(
If, as Cameron and Hague said, we cannot have a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, we should, therefore, have a referendum on whether we should be in the EU or not. Having a referendum on what powers we might be able to retrieve from the EU is absolute nonsense. Why on earth should we go begging for powers that we, as a sovereign people, already have? We must leave this evil empire as soon as possible.
Westminster is already showing that it is going to do nothing to stop the march of the European Superstate, We will be also pushed into the Copenhagen treaty with no proper representation when more and more people are waking up to the fraud of global warming and climate change. Yes the climate is changing. I believe the old saying was if you don't like the weather in England, wait a minute. Let us free ourselves from this beaurocratic hell. Vote UKIP.
How about we drop the EU and trade as a free, sovereign nation? Who makes it's own laws, laws based on self-interest not on the interest of EU Bureaucrats? Who can control it's own borders? Fish in it's own waters? Mine it's own gas and oil? And I the only one who thinks we we have all been royally fucked and led down the garden path towards giving u our hard earned freedom, and supplicating to Super-Government who would be more at home in a George Orwell Novel than the 21st Century....
