@leella54 Thank you so much! I only saw this comment now. I'm Nomi, at age 23. I'm now a solo artist, performing piano and voice, and teaching both as well. I appreciate the wonderful comment. Best of luck to you, too!
damn!!!! one child of 5 years?! incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!! I myself, played first time with orchetra when I was 12 y.o. but 5 years old... is that not much traumatising for a children? and BRAVO!!!!!
incredible! sweety, i hope u all the luck in the future and i think ull be a beautiful, talented, and incredible yound woman some day!! the best of luck!! :)
Thank you. I had a lot of allergies when I was little... Very fidgity, too. :) When I was 3-5, I practiced about 1-3 hours a day--it went up every year.
What beautiful musicality coming from such a little girl. This is not just note learning, but real musical feeling. She is very special and will be a great artist.
I disagree, sort of. Not all brains are created the same. Very, very few people, even if given optimal training, would be able to perform as well as she at her age. She obviously comes from good stock.
i see your point, but i never said that anyone who starts off that young will become unbelievable pianists, they just have a much better handle on it. much like teaching a child a second language at a young age; they will pick up on it MUCH faster than an adult.
I think you're correct. Many cognitive abilities have key developmental phases. Everyone should recognize, for example, that young children learn language better than adults. I read that if an infant is blindfolded from the age of 2 week thru 6 weeks, that he will have difficulty recognizing vertical lines for the rest of his life.
that's interesting. you're right, there's a window of time where optimal learning occurs, such as language skills for kids. if they miss that window of time, it's harder and harder for them to learn language skills. i feel that applies to piano playing as well; kids are so young that they learn how to do things so quickly, and their muscles can develop around playing the piano as well. very fascinating...
Oddly enough, I am acquainted with someone who started at the age of 3 and was pressured to practice long hours a day as time went on by her family and teachers. I was wondering if around 3 or so is in effect an optimal age, that is, for kids who are discovered to be talented in music, or anything for that matter like drawing, gymnastics, etc. Of course the Suzuki method starts them young, too. Interesting. I'm glad you mentioned this.
Five years old and playing a Mozart concerto with an orchestra! That is truly remarkable!

I'm in awe of anyone who can play the piano, and this just blows me away.
It's a real piano, just on her scale for her ease in playing it. Her focus is immense.
