civil unions are cool, except they have 9 differences under the law. you're right about language and changing words, however, much like the bible has been rewritten, language also adapts in society over time. although, the term marriage is actually defined as 2 people in a union or legal contract and mostly uses man and woman as an example (obviously b/c that is the most common) the definition does not exclude gender. When separating church and state, marriage is a legal matter not religious.

1) This is a lie. Whatever the set-up is in Massachusetts, I don't know. In CALIFORNIA, curriculum is decided at the local school-board level. If you don't want your kids taught about gays, go to your school-board meetings. Schools have no set curriculum on teaching marriage one way or another.

If it we were voting on something about banning divorce or preventing second, third, fourth marriages, I'd agree that a Yes vote is DEFINITELY protecting the sanctity of marriage. The Bible states that divorce can ONLY happen in the case of adultery, but that neither party can remarry because they then would be committing adultery in the eyes of God. Preventing DIVORCE protects the sanctity of marriage. Preventing MARRIAGE does not. Cute video by the way! =) NO ON 8~!

Prop 8 has struck a nerve with me. I don't like the thought of people telling me I'm not human enough to sign a contract at the courthouse, yet we get called upon to sit in courtrooms as jury members, why? Because skipping over the gays and any other minority would be considered discrimination.

My mother will be voting NO on prop 8 because she hopes to one day welcome my other half into the family, legally. But it's more than that, it's the cake you think about as a child. It's having friends and family support you in your life and wanting to welcome your lover in with open arms. This Prop is much more than a piece of paper, although married rights are much needed...it's creating a memory for a frame to dust off years from now when your loved one has passed.

If you're worried about the economy, then get "married" and spend tons on the ceremony, if that's what you're after, but why can't we keep it called domestic partnerships? Or will we always have to distinguish whether we belong to a same-sex or different-sex marriage?
