@ShaneLarocque Jarrett had gallbladder surgery a week or two before this race. At Phoenix a few weeks before, he had to get out during the race and hand the car over to Michael Waltrip due to what he thought was the flu (it turned out to be gallstones, hence the surgery.) His doctor didn't approve of him racing so soon after the surgery, so he asked DW to fill in for him.
If you are talking about Hamilton Jr. getting his dad's team, from what I heard, the financial backers of the team did not want him running the team, thinking that he would not be the appropriate person to run the team.
If you are talking about something else, then that is new to me.
This was when Nascar would hold an Exibition race in Japan at the end of the season. In 1997, they held a race at the Suzuka Circuit. In 98, they raced in Motegi
It would be nice to see NASCAR do something like this again, but with the way the schedules are, and with the costs of those trips, I understand why they don't do these anymore
It was back in the late 1990s when NASCAR was becoming popular not only out west but outside of the U.S. It was a non-points type race in an effort to expand the fan base.
nascar needs to have one more race in japan
