But they will never fight to protect Georgia, as they showed in 2008. So joining NATO and allying with the US doesn't help Georgia, it just makes it a target for larger and more powerful neighbors (Russia, Iran.) The fact is, Georgia needs to reach an agreement with Russia if it wants Abkhazia and Ossetia back and permanent security.
