hey thankyou for this video my sensor and tube were plugged solid and the truck was throwing no codes, im in the middle of the job now but i just cant believe how bad that was
@bigdjd851 The sensor generally wont throw a code to trigger the CEL, but produces a "soft code". A soft code is a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) that is just like a normal code. It is stored in the PCM memory and can be pulled just like a CEL code, but doesnt trigger the CEL.
@TreySpooner / @TheMikekulp - Yeah, the dual alternator setup isn't fun. For now until I can tear into it and start pulling accessories (lower alternator & a/c compressor) & brackets off in a week or two I just put a 1/4" brass pipe plug in the manifold & left the sensor plugged in just reading ambient pressure. Jody @ DP-Tuner says the truck will run fine like that (and it does), but will take a 1-2 mpg hit until the sensor is reading actual exhaust pressure.
Any tips on doing this on a truck with dual alternators? Getting the old tube out was easy because it was broken into two pieces, but I absolutely cannot get the new tube onto the truck due to the accessories/brackets on the passenger side due to the dual alternator setup. I'm guessing I'll need to remove the lower alternator which is a pain, maybe more?
@coucher Ohh thats a good one. I havent worked on a dual alternator set up before. I would try feeding the tube up from the bottom as in the video. I found this to me 5x easier than from the top down. But again that was with one alternator.
@coucher if you figure something out let me know please. i'm mid-job wondering the same thing. been fighting with it for a few hours to no avail. haven't found a good solution online, might end up having to do some dis-assembly
@PowerstrokeJustice99 The sensor relates to fueling tables in the PCM which control how much fuel is used. When it is clogged the sensor get a bad reading and the PCM cannot fuel properly.
i took it off and had a few cracks in the tube....and it was so clogged up i couldnt get a wire through it even after 2 hours of trying... i called the dealership they ordered me a new tube for 10$ but a new sensor is $107.81!! ha so i am going to get the tube tomorrow.
another quick question, my truck is 99 F350 7.3L and im about to turn 190k, what is the life expectancy of the fuel injectors , truck runs great now but im knocking on wood and watching my mirrors everday and hoping not to see black smoke and fuel pouring out every where
besides the obvious like air filter and fuel filters? I was told there is a fuel filter in the tank is it possible that could cause anything with loss in fuel millage ?
@bigdjd851 There are many things you can look for, however these trucks tend to vary. Some get 13-15mpg and others get 18-20mpg. That is normal. However there are plenty of things you can look for. I will make a video on that. For more things to look at send me a message and I will give you a link for a list of things you can do.
GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!! followed it step by step, and lets just say i had to soak my tube brake clean for 5 mins the blow the gunk out with compressed air then drilled on top of that ended up with 3 mpg better thanks for the great video
I could be over simplifying it, but why do you need to pull the tube loose, it seems to me that you could do the same thing just pulling the EBP sensor and shooting some brake clean down it and feed a shorter piece of your speedo cable into the tube and use your drill to spin it slowly till it is in. I think it would feed a lot easier if the tube was still mounted. I have not done this on my f450 yet but i would think it would work, and save you 20 minutes.
@nsaanity Taking it out lets you inspect the tube for holes which is not uncommon. Also you get to look at the manifold bung. If you do this service regularly you could take the tube off every other or every third time.
@timcdavis The IAT or Intake Air Temperature sensor, is located near the passenger side fender in the engine compartment. On a stock air intake, it will be plugged in the air intake tube.
Nice. My truck is a '00 auto trans ex. cab short box F250 with 253,000 mi. On summer fuel it gets 18.6 hwy IDK city. I will try this and get back with the results.
Kool video dude its nice to find other 7.3 vids out there to show you DIY. Ive been trying to do this for awhile because my MPGs have dropped. Is your EBPS tube new it look shiny because mine is rusted up and its going to be a pain to get off. Also did you see and improve meets in MPGs after you did the cleaning
@BurbanMilitia Thanks for your comment. I live in Southern California. Stuff doesnt seem to rust here. I have yet to see any rust on my truck anywhere. My tube is not new, it is the original (to my knowledge). The first time I did this, I got about 1MPG. There was less than 20,000 miles on it this time, and I did it just for demonstration purposes.
i had mine done for free.. it was a ford recall.

Nice vid. I usually make this a yearly event. These 7.3's make an unbelieveable amount of soot. Perfect way to show how much DIY care goes a long way
