I think the solo is fine, but you haven't got enough drive on it. The original probably has a volume/distortion boost. Also, I think there is scope for minor bends in the solo. Kurt used a Jaguar, which is more "springy" than the SE. So you can put a small bend in the notes of the solo to emulate that..

Just noticed, the solo also may use slide or bends rather than picking each note, so it seems rushed even though you are keeping time properly. e.g. at 3:16 you are picking each note, when it is likely to be a pick at 3rd string fret 5, bend up to the c# then a bend back down. pweeow rather than pwpepw. I can't believe I just wrote that.
