@gojuryudan I'll just say 4 rather than 3 so we don't spoil it for the others!! ;-) But then again, with Chinen we also performed 5 or 7, depending upon his mood. But it was always an unequal numbr. ;-)
@LittleBigPoet Actually, the most common way of performing sanchin no kata is with closed hands. Indeed, you may do it with open hands too, but that is used depending on what you want to exercise with the execution of the kata. On the other hand, Higaonna sensei is a highly respected master of karate throughout the world, so you may use this video as a reference of how this kata should be performed, of course, depending on the opinion of your own sensei.
@LittleBigPoet Motobu Ryu does the kata w both open & closed hands. There is a video on the Utube that you can watch. It is the Higashionna version. What is shown here, is the modified version called Miyagi Sanchin (Some dojo call them dai ichi or dai ni)
You may be used to the Uechi version of Sanchin which is a bit different in breathing mode and open hand techniques
Even though it is been a long time since someone has replied in here I want to clarify he is not farting. If you have any knowledge of being in a dojo you would know thatmoving your feet on the wood and grasping it with force will cause that sound. Trust me it is not giving a master of his honor to say such comments about him.

Thanks for uploading the video. Sanchin is one of the difficult kata to master in terms of physical and mental.
