I fell off real similar to this last week and injured my back too weird :S Anyways my riding instructor said its the falls which look hideous which cause the least damage as your normally thrown away from the horse therefore missing legs, jump wings etc but 'smaller' falls normally result in worse injuries as you dont have time to react properly - id never thought of that before....
That's a great first fall to have let me tell you. Mine was off of a 16 hh when I was like 7 and she was just going bonkers. Well sat, though. Almost had it XD

I think you did a really good job on this course. It wasn't a small course either! It looks VERY easy from the ground but in reality it's a different matter. You had him controlled and you folded well over all the fences (perhaps the first one was a bit behind the movement), I think the last fence which had the stride in before the last jump unbalanced you and by the time you went for the last jump you had lost your balance already. Your horse did very well to jump this without running out
im not bitching, but i think you fell because you got unbalanced when you landed and your horse saw it as an opportunity :P they are very clever animals, my horse does it sometimes hehe :)

On my first fall had something like this happen to me in 2008. I was cantering and i did a tight turn, and my saddle slipped and i fell right on my shoulder. It hurt so much but suprisingly i didnt cry. After about 7 weeks, the pain was still there, but had went down some, and i finally told my mom. She took me to the doctor only to find out i had broken my shoulder and had ripped a ligament. It was not fun. Im glad your okay now. Stuff like that is not fun. Expecially when its your first fall.
@Horsegal143 for my first fall i was jumping and the horse i was riding ran at it (i just started so i didnt know how to slow down properly) and she pivoted on the landing and i flew. i ended up landing on my left shoulder and i couldnt feel it at first, but later that day it hurt really really bad and i couldnt move it. i eventually got x-rays done and they showed a broker shoulder and an almost torn ligament. i agree. not fun.
@Horsegal143 it healed just fine. i can do everything i was able to do before. exept push-ups. i was never able to do those anyway. i apoligize for it taking me so long to reply. and for my horrible spelling.
So, if you think you fractured your vertebrae GO to a Chiropracter and get x-rays done! I had an innocent fall of my horse - didn't realize I had injured anything and a year later had to deal with SEVERE muscle and back pain. Turns out I had fractured one of my lower vertebrae and also obtained severe muscle damage to my shoulder and thigh. Two years later, I'm much better, but I still see my chiropracter on a regular basis! Lesson is - GET IT CHECKED OUT.

how high you jump tells me how long you have been riding and that was your first fall? wow i have been riding for only 3 years and i have fallen off 3 times they arent in any of my vids though
@chloeluvzjonet Noo haha this was my first and only fall off of this horse (who I've had for about a year). Although I have been riding since I could walk, and have only fallen off 5 times (but 3 of those I landed on my feet!)
Thanks so much! I'll try to keep that in mind, I'm going cross country tomorrow. This was my first lesson with this lady in about a year and a half, and first lesson with this horse. She basically was reforming my whole way of riding, so it felt REALLY different, and I think that definitely contributed to my loss of confidence (leading to the fall!)
that's basically how i messed up my back lol i fell off in a triple line and landed right on my lower back..and after like 6months of going to the chiropracter it's better :D lol I hope your back feels better faster than mine though...and this is the saying that holds true no matter what: good riders can stay on, but the best riders know how to fall haha

ouch! one time i was jumping 3'6 and i lost my stirrups right before the jump and i fell in mid air

how high you jump tells me how long you have been riding and that was your first fall? wow i have been riding for only 3 years and i have fallen off 3 times they arent in any of my vids though

@chloeluvzjonet Noo haha this was my first and only fall off of this horse (who I've had for about a year). Although I have been riding since I could walk, and have only fallen off 5 times (but 3 of those I landed on my feet!)

The canter looked a little perched, try to sit back a tiny bit. Other than that, almost perfect eq! & BEAUTIFUL horse.
The fall was no fault of your own, even the best make small mistakes. Hope you feel better soon. (:

Thanks so much! I'll try to keep that in mind, I'm going cross country tomorrow. This was my first lesson with this lady in about a year and a half, and first lesson with this horse. She basically was reforming my whole way of riding, so it felt REALLY different, and I think that definitely contributed to my loss of confidence (leading to the fall!)

that's basically how i messed up my back lol i fell off in a triple line and landed right on my lower back..and after like 6months of going to the chiropracter it's better :D lol I hope your back feels better faster than mine though...and this is the saying that holds true no matter what: good riders can stay on, but the best riders know how to fall haha
