No worries, he over corrected at the last moment. He will catch shit from his skipper and buddies, yet he's fine. LSO will grade him down for the tri cycle effect and 2 wire arrest.
Actually, even in the video shown here, is normal. This is pretty much a crash landing. This happens often with small fighters like the F/A-18, sometimes, the A-4 (when it was in service of course), and the F-14 Tomcat. But this landing happened to most, if not, all aircraft landing on the carrier at least once.
no if it is ever time a plane lands it's electronics would get screwed, the planes have a hook that comes down to hook onto the wires on the carrier (there are 5)
@dimitri02 You know, with your attitude of coming into beautiful videos like these, and degrading such an amazing aircraft, we would call that "trolling" in the Navy.
it looks like he tries to increase the descent rate just as he reaches the stern and comes down a bit hard, the main gear shouldnt come off the ground like that, it was a hard landing in my opinion (not normal) lol

I bet that pilot's eyes got about as big around as basketballs for a second...

You can't call it a Top Gun landing because it's not an F-14 Tomcat.

not bad for a hornet driver trying land only on the nose wheel.

the number of bounces at a landing is directly proportional to the number of viewers...

a good landing is one you can walk away from, a great landing is one where the plane can be used again, this was a great landing.

how does the rope attach ?
is it magnetic?
JD55000 2 years ago
No there's a hook on the back of the plane and the pilot has to catch the arrestor wires with the hook. It stops the plane in about 1 second.
BruceWaynesGirl1408 2 years ago
thats hard,
JD55000 2 years ago
old school hook and catch
romajo 2 years ago
the planes have a tailhook which catch one of four wires laid out on the carrier deck so they stop nice and quick
mcfurley 2 years ago
you kidding me? there's no magnet in the world that could stop that much force...the plane comes at 130+ knots....
it's a hook that grabs the cable, which is not an elastic, what makes it stop is the friction.

uh ok well im only 16

that is why the landing gear sucks on the hornet. compared to the Tomcat, the Tomcat had better control of landing due to its spread of landing gear.

He seem to come down from too high, or is this normal? I honestly dont know.
Im guessing its pretty loud on deck when he goes full thrust at the end.
