Yes indeed, 12hp can be great fun, especially in skilled hands. A bit challenging for the beginner perhaps - our own 1970s Simple Cyclone needed skilled anticipation for best results when running a 12hp KEC225, and just got better as we tuned the motor up (to ~18hp).
We eventually went separate lift (Stihl 62) and thrust (Hirth 436) - it then went very well indeed in F2, and made a pretty good cruiser too.
