I'm an oxford student, I'm still studying Mathematics on its own; for 4 years. to get into there i had to upgrade my Maths a-level up to an A* and other subjects up to A* and the other 3rd up to A :P geez, it was hard, but i've gone through it :) Im really happy to be studying here.
You are all so lucky to be smart enough to get into a University with so much history and prestige. I was just lucky enough to get into college. From America with great respect go on and change the world for the better please.
Yes, you are right; there is a massive misconception with students that Oxford would somehow be impressed by someone with more A levels. In fact, they aren't. They specify 3 As and believe it or not, that's what they want! xD
It doesn't matter if you have 3A levels with 3As or 5 with 3As, they base offers on 3 A levels. Although, from the date of your post, it seems you're eligible for the A* at A level, so go for 3A*s instead of 5 good A levels. Also, rowing is always good on your personal statement for an oxbridge applicant.
@nzekulman I can agree with that, my original plan was to go for oxford, I had rowing experience but i want clever enough, and they didnt do a degree in film and cinema technologies.
@nzekulman I can agree with that, my original plan was to go for oxford, I had rowing experience but i want clever enough, and they didnt do a degree in film and cinema technologies. but yeah the rowing certainly would have helped
@nzekulman Rowing does not help. I'm a 3rd year Oxford student and have been involved in two interview periods and four open days at my college. I can tell you that all they care about is
1. How good you are at their subject i.e. A-level grades,
and 2. Do you have a passion for the subject? i.e. have you read around the subject?
This is where most people fall short. Preferably, you'd talk 95% about your subject in your personal statement and 5% other (just to show you aren't a psycho).
@soniaangel00 Umm, usually Oxford would take in students who normally take 3 subjects, but having all As.
There are two students, one having 3A and one having 3A and 1B. Oxford would take the student who got 3A's because the other student has a potential weakness in a certain subject.=)
@FALASTINI93 I you are smart no ,if well connected ,you will have a better chance ,if you went to the same school as an interviewer ,then its slim but maybe ,of course you will need a minumun of AAB in a levels..
@ChRIs23696 You loose nothing by applying. A year ago, I was struggling through high school and applied to Oxford on the offchance. Now I'm just setting out my bow tie and cap for the matriculation ceremony tomorrow.

Fear them. They also tell you what to think.
