I really like this strategy for having your students get to know their teacher. It is really important for your students to know you are a person like them, not just a teacher and this helps them relate to you and form that relationship. I like how she showed a past report card showing lower grades in Math and then her award of excelling in Math in college. This is a great way to motivate students and let them know how much potential they have and how much they can improve in the areas needed.
I like the video, because it shows specific examples of what you can take into your classroom so that students can get to know you as a person. I have some pins and trophys from elementary school and could probably get my old report cards from my mom to show to my students. This video was pretty specific to this one aspect of classroom management. I wish they would have expanded on other ideas to use.
I don't know. I wonder if I should really try to open up b/c I dislike talking about myself. I think that if I do, I'd end up boring my students explicitly. When I do open up, and I think I do this, I just insert little bits of something personal in my life like how I was such a geek and so forth.
