Honestly, the "track" test isn't all that good. Why? Two bikes of the same (or very similar) specification are likely to have very similar top speed. Furthermore, a total noob riding an R1 will only have a slight chance of winning against a professional rider using a 250R.

To start I'd get a used Ninja 500 or 650 (don't let the moniker fool you, the 650 is less powerful that the 600). @MultiMartialArtist congrats on joining the club, both as a rider and a Kawi owner! Going brand new definitely hits the wallet; I think 2008 250s cost about $3500. Don't be shocked when you outgrow it, just be happy you lived to get there. And please, please don't step from a 250 to a liter bike. Get a 600 and mature with your bike. Any decent 600 will do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, top out over 150mph and out-carve a literbike in the canyons. What's not to love?

@bloodsniper10 Yeah mate it's ridiculous over here in the UK. At the age of 16 you can only have a 50cc .. then 17 you can have a 125... Once you have a full licence you can have any sized bike as long as it's restricted for two years. Me personally I'd love to slap the bitch that made up these rules lol. i really like both the kawa and the R1 , incredible machines when it comes to maniablilty ... Used to go roadtrips with a 2007 model of the R1 and race with my mates ninja..

at the moment im doing my driving license for motocycles and my first bike is going to be an xj6s which is a good beginners bike but in germany there is no difference between 600 er bikes because you need a thing to slow the power to 34 hp down (dont now the word )
but im allready saving my money for an r6 i think thats going to be enough power till im 22 :D
It's all rider and preference. These bikes are all so close. The difference is where the torque curve peaks or relaxes. Honda is usually underrated because of how smooth the torque is throughout the range. It seems as if the engine lacks personality, but it's all rider and preference.
my first bike was a 2000 kawasaki zr7, it never let me down, so i desided im gonna stick with kawasaki forever and plus they have a strong racing history. the zx-12 will be my next bike

Kawasaki did win the 350cc class in motoGP back in 1982 but i'm pretty sure no one here cares about pocket bikes. Sure the new kawasaki bikes look cool, but are they the best on the track? I had a chance to ride them all and the CBR was hands down the best all around and now I know why it was Litre of the year 08 and 09!! It might not have the thrust but the cornering blows them all away

Also, they're quoting the speed they've tested the bikes at, the speed manufacturers say the bikes will go is neither here nor there, it is the speed that can actually be achieved that counts.

So what he's saying is if you want a sports bike to use only in perfect conditions on a track get the ZX10! But if you want a bike for all roads/tracks/conditions get the R1. if i was to buy a 1000cc bike in 07, it would br an r1, if i was to buy a bike in 08, cbr fireblade, but for 09... has to be the new zx10r. just looks so nice with the white chequered flag at the bottom of the body work. i do think that the r1 is a very nice bike but you cant beat the green of a ninja :)
I have a black 09 zx10r and love it. I love all litre bikes though. Something tells me that the guys on here who say their litre bikes are SOOOOO much better than anyone elses,probably don;t even own one. hey everyone!
i loved this video but the sounds are poor..
probably the only main difference would be rider skills...
I believe sport bike preference is all rooted from the rider & his/her intended usage. Track rats may find favor aboard the Suzuki GSXR1000, Honda CBR 600, or even Ducatis. Street riders can go along well with Honda's CBR1000RR & Yamaha's R1. What gives you the perfect mix of safety, pleasure & feedback is the best ride for you!

did you hear what he sais? he s talking about the wheel power....thats not the power of the engine^^ its about 8% lower at the rear wheel. and the speed he s talking about is the speed they tested....not every bike r1 or/and zx-10r has the same topspeed, it is influenced by the wheater, the temperatur, the rider,......
if you have ever engeneered a bike you have to know about this facts^^
and i do know what a im talking about...

this guy does not know what he was talking about. correction on what he said on the r1. the 2008 r1 has an 180 hp and top speed of 188 mph. who hired this guy? do your researched more.don't get me wrong i love all motorcycle and cars. but i hated it when one party or one individual was making their point that utterly inaccurate. did you hear some of the words he used. one of the words was "i think". never having designed, engineered nor built the bike. that does not you an expert.

@solidr1 He's clearly not quoting the power at the crank as it proves nothing, he's saying the power they've recorded at the rear wheel. Also, they're quoting the speed they've tested the bikes at, the speed manufacturers say the bikes will go is neither here nor there, it is the speed that can actually be achieved that counts.

So what he's saying is if you want a sports bike to use only in perfect conditions on a track get the ZX10! But if you want a bike for all roads/tracks/conditions get the R1. To many riders stick to the brochure,they read up on BHP & top speed,buy the fastest to pose to their mates but in truth don't enjoy the ride as much as their mates R1/Blade. Don't get me wrong Ninjas are great but for Real World bikes there are better ones around!

ZX10 is pain in the arse if your in the city.
It has a very wide turning circle compared to R1, you also hit the fuel tank with your hands and run out of steering angle.. The bes...no, R1.
Well, the zx is awesome at 120-> km/h but its over the limits, the r1 is a joy even at 40km/h...
Its so annoying when you think "now im gonna fall if I dont turn more, OH SHIT I CANT TURN MORE, MY HANDS ARE TOUCHING THE TANK" thats ZX for you :)

if i was to buy a 1000cc bike in 07, it would br an r1, if i was to buy a bike in 08, cbr fireblade, but for 09... has to be the new zx10r. just looks so nice with the white chequered flag at the bottom of the body work. i do think that the r1 is a very nice bike but you cant beat the green of a ninja :)

I have a black 09 zx10r and love it. I love all litre bikes though. Something tells me that the guys on here who say their litre bikes are SOOOOO much better than anyone elses,probably don;t even own one. You guys saying that a 1000cc gixxer kills a zx10 ..or a cbr1000 destroys an r1 are all full of crap. All sport bikes are wicked cool-just enjoy them!!!!

i have a 2002 ninja 636A(throttled down to 98PS) and i once beat a guy on his 4 years younger Honda cbr R6(120+ PS?) while doing green traffic lights drag races
of course all 1L bikes are awesome and one has to find the one that suits him the best!

I just gotta say, Hallelujah brother. I love my '05 R1, but if you're on a liter, you're kickin' ass, period. 600's are a little bit more decisive, depending on the year (I used to have an '08 R6), but still, if you're riding a sportbike, and you are riding what you want, you won't be happier!

superbike and MOTO gp aren't the same thing..superbike is based on the stock bikes..moto GPs are 800cc and have nothing in common with street bikes and SB bikes..i rode a kawi and I can say..kawi has nothing in motoGP..R1 isn't a moto GP bike and neither is the ZX10..before you call someone a dumbass make sure you know what you're talking about

kawasaki's are def. the fastest & they feel crazy when you ride them. Huge adrenaline rush. But i hate their transmissions. That's why I had to go gsxr.
& most Kawasaki's have catalytic converters... take that off and you got at least 6 more hp.

kawis is about power! Just reel the cable and let you friends behind i ridden a 07 zx10r and a r1 (i dont have them) and i can say if u wanna a monster go with kawis, the r1 is more friendly, more easy. and NEVER compare a GP full modded r1 with a normal r1 they r TOTALLY different.

Kawasakis are Bad Boys bikes..I know cause i ridden both..Yamaha is more layed back in terms of riding position and riding style..Kawas just kick ass no matter what they do, you sit with your legs further up and back like a jockey , always have more power..besides, Yamaha makes pianos, Kawasaki makes engines.Bash all you want but im talking out of experience, and i dont ride pussy and squid.

i dont think Kawasaki Heavy Industries can be called mediocre from any stretch of the imagination.Bikes is a side business for them.They are into earth moving equipment and the like.Plus they have produced some of the more famous bikes...
