I'm moderately faceblind and I usually recognize people by their voice. I am skilled with drawing so over the years I've learned to recognize people by the detail of their nose, eyes, ears... and I usually categorize my classmates with famous people who look similar.
I have mild prosopagnosia. There are some people I would never confuse, I easily confuse a brunette with a blonde, but I would not confuse a child with an adult. And never ever would I confuse a woman and a man. I wonder in cases of severe prosopagnosia, if they put 2 people side by side of which one was male and the other female, does anyone ever get them wrong? I actually have confused a white guy with a black guy which might seem weird, but that was in a movie, not in real life.
I found a test on test my brain and scored less than 1%. My sister and mother don't have this problem at all. My dad seems to have a hard time telling people apart when he watches movies. I don't know if that means he has it to a mild degree. I'm not sure.
Hello, I just wanted to let you know of research being conducted at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities on Prosopagnosia. We are interested, specifically, about how this disorder affects children. You can check out our website or send us an email (yonaslab@umn.edu) to find out more information!
@iheartunibrows i have it and its definitely a problem but like most things in life you get used to it and develop strategies to work around it. For eg i can identify almost anyone ive met just once by their voice if i meet them again
I'm prosopagnosic, and just want to say that I loathe the term "face-blind". I'm not blind to faces, I just can't tell them apart. Please could we stop using this term: it was invented by well-meaning people who aren't themselves prosopagnosic, by analogy with dyslexia being known as "word-blindness". Let's say "prosopagnosic", not "face-blind".
@amylNRG It's fucking layman's terms. If you have CANCER you say "I have cancer". Not "I have a malignant neoplasm". Because then no one would know what the fuck you were talking about. People need to stop being so touchy. Jesus christ.
i recognize faces faster than most people,, it is extremely extremely helpful and to not be able to recognize a persons face could put you at an extreme disadvantage.. the best que is the gape between teh eyes.
I got 33%. But I knew I had prosopagnosia. I actually couldn't tell the difference between the two Hilaries until she spoke. Once she spoke, I recognised her voice so I knew it was her.
I got 97% on normal face recognition (70 out of 72) and 90% on famous faces (27 out of 30). I couldn't remember Captain Picard's last name!! (Patrick Stewart), couldn't identify Tony Blair or Rowan Atkinson. Interesting test - take it!
yayyyy. i tried to contribute a personality to them (like 1 looked like billy corgan from The Smashing Pumpkins, and another one looked like an (imaginary) tougher brother of bill). some of them were a lil fatter, so made them 'hungry', and so on.
also, "faces in the crowd" movie brought me here

On the famous people's test I scored 23%, I couldn't find the other test. But I'm faceblind so this result isn't shocking to me.

Out of 72 faces, you correctly identified 64.
In other words, you got 89% correct.

Woah--that's really interesting.
I've always been MUCH better at faces than names.
I just did one of the tests and, out of 72 faces, I correctly identified 68 (94% correct)
I'd recommend trying it.
