They can't get them to healthily adopt a vegetarian diet. Cats are obligate carnivores and need the protein in meat. They become sick if they don't have it.  It's good that the monks aren't forcing the diet on these tigers.

I went to this Temple in 2006.I have worked in Animal Welfare all my life,and was concerned that they would be sedated or abused.I can confidently say that they are neither.The Monks and workers at the Temple are striving to create a better environment for these Tigers,but in receeding economy it is very hard.

The monks are making a ton of money off of unenlightened tourists. Approximately 300 tourists pass through each day, each paying a mere $10 entrance fee plus extra fees for "special" photos. Approx. $20000 per week is cashed in, excluding further donations, and there is little sign that this is being spent on the welfare of the animals. The abbott himself is not open to constructive criticism of his operation or support from organisations wishing to improve the welfare of the animals.

It is not true.. I have been to Temple many times. The tigers eats dog food.. the monk name is "Jun"..he won't give any sedative to the tigers because he loves them too much and most important of all he doesn't have much money to sedate them... Do say something truthful....

I went 1 year ago. Because of habitat destruction and near extinction due to the fact these valuable animals can kill you, the tigers are endangered. Sure it costs about $10 to get up close which supports the place, the caretaker, and food. Everything is geared on money today. Sure it's not right for this animal to be kept awake in the Sun all day to be petted, but it's better than the animal being killed and extinct. Maybe it's not the right way to save it, but it's what is being done.

You should HOPE that they're sedated. Nocturnal animals don't like being forced to stay awake when they're supposed to sleep. More than one volunteers has witnessed the tigers being given pills in their food. These are people who go there to help.

This is really beside the point. The main point is that they are trading illegally in an endangered species without a license.

There is proof the tigers came from Laos. They aren't all orphaned tigers. Do some research and you'll find the truth.

No, your information is not correct. The Care for the Wild Organization has recently exposed this place for what it really is:

- Illegal trade in an endangered species for which they don't have a license

- Physical abuse

Sorry, I don't know of any tiger charities that are trustworthy. Animal wellfare is fairly non-existent in Thailand, though there are a few kind souls who actually care. One thing is for sure, this is NOT the place to go if you love tigers. The abbot is making a killing off of tourists.
