Thought evoking, emotional and purely beautiful in both it's simplicity and it's complexity. Your videos are always so :0)
These are a most excellent collection of memories & brain pokers!! Lest not forget the mighty imagination! And, play.... Play is an integral part of our growth, I believe!
She is beautiful. I guess in their own way, all children are. This reminded me of a childhood... not mine.... just a childhood. Wonderfully crafted, I say.
Wow, how did I miss this?! I thought you were going to let me know when you post? haha
I love how organic this is; even more so than you normally are. I love how you let the kids shine in their element, yet at the same time, you add little touches that make it purely an ECO video (if that makes since).
I like them all, but I LOVE the shots @:22-:29; :35-:45; 2:28-3:11; 3:21-end.
I hope to venture into the more organic this year. And this one will be a definite point of inspiration,my friend.
That was so much fun! I hope that the child inside us stays with us until the very end,, Another very interesting video and the music was great for this! Happy Holidays,,, Dave/Pops
I need- 1. A play date 2. A time machine. "There's a hole in the ceiling- grab your pets!" It's a fascinating time (or so I remember). No dams in the stream of consciousness. As an artist...well...I'd love to get a little of that back. This was a little clip of innocence, but with a hard to pin down edge. I'm guessing it comes from knowing (as adults do) there comes a time when your stuffed animals don't talk back. If they do, well, there're medications for that.
I feel like a spy... It's as if I have seen some intimate moments that I was not supposed to see, and that was obvious when my vision was blocked by a hand... The music framed everything that happened on screen and somehow made it more intimate...
Stunning, it grabs me. The way you capture the entirety of essence, in a thought, in the tone. In the open observing. In the music.
I have such awe of how these fully unique young beings are, as well. It really is something, isn't it? Something beyond the beyond. Indescribable... these wild pure glorious sensitive creatures.
I am always so touched by what you make. Exquisitely beautiful video, Caren.
As always a WONDERFUL film Caren! How DO you manage to film kids so well - I never managed to get my son without him becoming all self-conscious. i LOVED the bit where Olive's friend did the cross-eyed thing!!! (I am reminded of that exchange in the elevator between Olive and William, and also the exchange at the END of that film "I'll always be your friend" - so amazing).
Anyway I love your work, but you know that. Thanks for always sharing your insights through your great videos.
Thank You Caren for sharing this...reminds me of how easy it was for me to be in that creative place when I was young...I didn't have days back than where I felt disconnected from the creative process...it wasn't work...or something that had to be coaxed into existence...it was who I was...I lived there back than...Like Olive and her friend...able to create on the spot without a second thought... wondrous new worlds... to play in...wherever and whenever...
Emotionally, I may think I know what this feels like, because I'm such a smarty-pants. But, that's why I'm sure I don't : I have no children of my own.
So, I can empathize..but I cannot completely relate to how miraculous Olive's presence in your life, IS. To me, she is only thoroughly delightful, reminding me of long-ago childhood innocence, and blowing my mind with her brilliance and rock-star cool.
"I find it fascinating how individual and fully present we are right from the start." Nurturing that independence and presence is the greatest gift that can be given to those who replace us. Your vision is always spot on... you do this so very well :^)
I find it fascinating how you can do both dark and creepy, and light and innocent, with the same acumen.
Your videos never disappoint. The same DNA that makes your daughter so special must also be what makes your videos so special. That sounds awkward, but I don't know how else to say it.
Oh, what an absolutely fabulous, wonderful document of a young girls life and friendship. It's so pretty that it hurts, it really akes in my heart! Olive looks so much like you, you can clearly see that there is so much going on inside her head. She looks so wise for her age. You have done such a great job capturing all these pretty moments!
More wonderful moments captured... I love how they're playing as if the camera isn't there for the most part. These videos are such beautiful keepsakes.
WoW very well shot and crafted ... Kids are great they do not have a care in the world and thats the way it should be as they soon grow up .. enjoyed the vid
Olive is a very lucky young lady to have such a talented Mommy who can capture these precious moments of her life so beautifully. What an amazing video diary you are compiling for her. And how she will appreciate looking back at these times in her childhood. For myself, my father had a super 8 camera (no audio) and how I've loved watching and remembering, film captures the nuisances of life, movement, expression, personality.... that a photograph, at times, can not.
We always feel that unknown suspense in your video. This time with your title the music united to make your fantastic video shots and scenario even more real, revealing details of the game we call life, our generations witnessing new generations, in their attempt to hopefuly keep beauty joy and peace their aims and inspirations;-) Bravo!
I got the jitters when I read that title. I never replaced someone and no one will replace me. We are unique, original humans that all will make their own place in life.
But it was just that word that gave me the jitters because I LOVED this video!!!!
great to see children enjoying a childhood, especially playing in the streets and not stuck in front of a computer. Your daughter is lucky to have a Mum with a camera to remind her when she grows up how spontaneous she was and in the hope that she will never pay attention to that big red 'STOP' sign in the picture and always be lively and engaging and creative when older as she is now at 6. Charming.
Man, sometimes I wish I could go back to that age, when the world didn't seem so full of problems and any thoughts of a dim future never crossed my mind.
That was beautiful and somehow slightly intense. Maybe it's the title. The whole thing with the music (love Ron's music) had a real simple and moving effect.
Great work.
My daughter Milah is now 7. I bet her and Olive would get along famously!
If you guys are ever in NYC, we must play in Central Park!
@chrisnatti thank you Chris. If/when we next get to NCY we will look you both up! I would love for Olive to see Central Park and to meet you and your daughter. I think the music is what makes the video, it helps you really watch what the two girls are doing. Or at least it does that for me. Thank you for the kind words!
Wonderful vid yet again. You always find the best music for your work. Amazing to see how quickly Olive grows through these wonderful vids. They hold their own time in a world of change. I have no kids. You are very lucky. She is too. Beautiful, as is all of your work.
This is a pretty good video. Thanks.
