  • And it seems like no one is able to emulate the bass effect at 3:47-4:02, making his playing that much more elevated at least in my mind

  • @abukhiyaar whah pedal and another type of distortion

  • Its funny how, in my experience, any time ive ever mentioned tool since this album came out, and i commend Justin Chancellor, people always refer to this song, but because of the beginning part. That always bothered me because i knew there were so many other better examples of his creativity. But after this its even more annoying because theres so much within this song, let alone everything else, thats mind-blowing in terms of technique and ideas!

  • SHIT! I was thinking "oh yeah oh yeah I MAKE IT RIGHT,I MAKE IT RIGHT" then, i hear this original bass track and fu**! ¬_¬" let´s practice and add some more stuff :-D

  • I've finally convinced my mom into going to see my 1st TOOL concert (my very 1st concert EVER) I do play bass, and I play TOOL only... I just have to say I'm glad i get to listen to a god do his job well, and will hopefully see them play live more. 6:12-6:25 have forever made my life a living hell now, but I can't wait!!! :D

  • Listen cloesy and you can hear them sing the bass is just turned up

  • These are very cool to have. Thanks. Is there a way to get drums and bass, without Adam or Maynard?

  • Dang Justin Chancellor knows how to play them bass

  • AWESOME

    music man sting ray ?

this is live version ? (on last block you turned distortion and playing first block)

whammy 4 and pulling volume potentiometer ?

    :)

  • @FaxBadmotorfinger This isnt a cover, this is the studio version, i thinks its ripped from rock band or guitar hero. Not sure if you know this or not, but Justin uses a wal mk2, and a bass whammy not a whammy 4.

  • @MrLuckybeast13

    sounds like sting ray

    cheers

  • @FaxBadmotorfinger Yeah, They do sound alike, justin used a stingray before he switched to his wals

  • Good song and very good quality bass track. This has actually helped me with playing this song cus I was having trouble near the end. Thanks for uploading it.

  • Les Claypool is an AMAZING bassist but his music is not ear appealing to ALOT of people lol when he signed his record deal he said "we're primus and we suck!" no joke lol i think tool's bassist is talented and sounds good but they can't be compared... it's like comparing monster to arizona i mean theyre both great but they're VERY different so please don't banter bout it anymore let's bask in bass beauty :D

  • I never knew how complicated that outro riff was. Tha's some good shit from JC right there.

  • heaven opens after 4:02

  • it is whammy for 1 octave, distortion, delay, with that volume knob shutting down

  • ehi, how did you get the bass track alone?

  • i can still hear the words there faint but there there ^.^

  • now i can learn this damn song

  • What are the chords Justin slides between at 3:17?

  • @colourfulwithaU dude, go to tooltabs.net there, you can find most of the tool tabs with great resemblance to the original songs

  • beautiful

  • cheers!

  • Thanks for the upload man, I appreciate it.

  • u can sorta here the vocals in the bak ground

  • @SheffieSud4903 Read the deatils of the video...

  • i have to found this song without vocals

  • You should make a bass instrumental of The Grudge.

  • anyone has forty and two with drums and guitar only? Plsss...? thanks!

  • 4:45 -5:04 Most beautiful thing that will ever come from a bass.... :')

  • @LambdaPaxton12 les claypool already won that race.......a million times over

  • @fward101 I REALLY respect Les Claypool, but, the stuff he plays isn't beautiful. It IS amazing, but not beautiful.

  • @scorpion779946 but it makes you happy, tool makes you drugs

  • @heavybass4ever How does tool MAKE us do drugs? That's a ridiculous statement. Tool makes me more happy than Primus EVER has. I agree though, Primus does make me happy.

  • @heavybass4ever i didnt mean it makes you use drugs, just, band is very hard, not difficult, not brutal, not quite dark, just siply hard

  • @fward101 absolutely

  • @LambdaPaxton12 well that and all their other music!

  • @LambdaPaxton12

On par with the bridge in wing part 2 though!

    Wish that was up here!

  • You can hear the vocals, the instrumentals are just a lot louder

  • Love this Basstrak .I try to play it .

    It´s not easy

  • @RobertBrtka

    Yes it is.

  • @whywontmyother1work depends how experienced you are

  • @haggis325

If you can hammer-on, you can play Schism.

  • @whywontmyother1work it aint as easy as it seems, though its practically a sinch once you get the opening down

  • Comment removed

  • @whywontmyother1work

If you're not experienced enough to hammer-on, you can't play Schism.

  • @whywontmyother1work This song is surprisingly easy, it's just really complex and there's so many changes it's hard to follow it at parts.

  • what did he use on 6:14

  • @elsalvador702 Sounds like distortion with a bit of filter/autowah.

  • @sc45470 I'm not sure, but I think it's a Bass Whammy Pedal, but again not entirely sure.

  • @puppetmetal yes sir, its also used in the pot, vicarious, lateralus, and a few others as well

  • @puppetmetal whammy for 1 octave, distortion and delay with volume knob shutting down

  • woah i was the 666th viewer!

  • thanks for the bass instrumental...

    thats sounds so amazing!

  • & too

  • whoops. meant type 3:30

  • Beautiful

The Wal sounds so "refined" compared to 10,000 Days.

Ha! Fret buzz at 3:35. He picked and fretted to hard. :) Makes me feel better about the setup on my bass. Need to get a professional to do it for me

  • yea 10 000 days he put more grit and distortion. And the bass sounds alot different with instruments than without.

  • Fret buzz is normal for most bassists with low action (especially pick players). His bass gets actually quite a bit of fret buzz throughout the song.
