@ModraMagic I think people turned a blind eye because they were taught that the church was the higher power. Whatever the church said was law. I'm sure people knew some of what was going on in places like that but they were told not to look at them or talk about them or to them because they were told that they {the girls} brought it on themselves.

I feel very badly for all the poor young women who were victimized by the Church in this way (and every other). My deepest sympathy for the wasted, stunted years and psychological damage inevitably incurred. Screw those money-grubbing, controlling bastards in black robes.
