Yup I'm going along with what vwestlife said, it's actually AVI that's a proprietary format, microsoft invented it for some reason. Mpeg2 is actually standard used for digital video broadcasting here in the UK too, most 'things' that record digital tv save in mpeg2 format. Moviemaker is getting a little long in the tooth, but if you do wish to keep using it, there are many programs that'll convert it to .avi for you in various qualities :-)
MPEG2 video is not a proprietary format. It is the standard used by DVDs. Windows XP Movie Maker just doesn't support it, because it's too old. (Movie Maker was really only designed to work with MiniDV and Digital8 tape camcorders.) The program I use to edit MPEG2 videos is "VideoReDo Plus". It works so quickly and so easily, and produces such good quality output, that it was worth every penny to me -- I use it to edit nearly all of my videos.
Just Like everybody else its all about the money. Google stealing android and chrome (both linux based and free to give, use and modify)and yahoo charging 20/mo if you want to use a mail program, or auto manufactures designing their cars to go only 3yrs before needing costly repairs(brakes, tires, fluid flushes, belts, filters)so when your lease is up they can charge 3x on the cost of the parts. That's why all my computers are running linux, and my devices are running android that google never seen.
I have to admit luusting for the new Nikon waterproof cam. But I have my Olympus waterproof that i like. They're nice if you're out taking pix and it starts to rain or snow. I have not ventured to use it underwater yet. I looked at the Vivitar, but opted for the Olympus at twice the price. I remember Vivitar as being cheapie back in the 35mm days.
I have an old cheapo-Chineze drill press that I've had nearly twenty years, and the dang thing still works great.
Great video! Thank you for sharing!

@vwestlife You've convinced me. I'll take a look at that VideoReDo program and see what it does.
