Can anyone tell me what kind of Arabic Sheikh Hamza speaks? Is it a bookish fusha or its MSA? Does he have an accent, probably Mauritanian seeing he spent so many years there? Can a native Arab tell from his Arabic that he's not a native speaker?
@saqib09 I'm not sure what is bookish fusha or MSA , but I can tell you he's using the arabic that we used for formal writing and reading, he's excellent with it, better than some arabs , one can never tell that it's not his mother tongue.
My Arabic isn't perfect but from what I understand, Sh Suhaib's just telling them about himself, that he came from Oklahoma (land of cowboys) and converted when he was 20. He then talks about how he doesn't wear the 'Azhari' clothes with the young peoples because they get scared and that ppl need to be able to get close to the ulema and be able to talk to them and ask questions. He says like Ras(s)'s face was like the sun and everyone loved him but nowadays we have the strict-faced Imams.
He then talks about the students studying at al-Azhar including women, memorizing, getting ijazahs etc. He talks about his son (8 1/2?) a little who he said he named Malik after Malcolm X :)
Sh. Hamza then talks about how the East is becoming more like the West. How he was surprised to find women here wearing all this makeup (mascara etc like "fish in the sea") and that real beauty isn't trying to look young but that of haya', noor and ibadat etc.
