  • I'm laughing, because my child was music illiterate thanks to this method! He memorized & played by ear! Mind you, I'm not a fan of "every good boy does fine," either. Rather, I prefer starting a child in a basic primer. You don't even need to teach the child the letter names of the keys at first. After playing lots of short pieces that go up & down from Middle C, he can find the notes w/o even thinking about the letter names. But my kid only acquired that skill after ditching this crazy method.

  • What I mean to say is that when my child tried Webb's unorthodox method, he ended up memorizing & playing by ear just to get through it. He only actually started *reading* the notes once we ditched this method, and his sightreading ability is now growing by leaps and bounds daily. (I was limited by the # of characters youtube allows and wasn't sure if my meaning came through very well in my first post.)
