  • Has to be Architecture.

  • this is sick...

  • ...so where'd the duct tape go at 1:25?

  • and what about those isolating tape over the snare?

  • @leocechet this is for reduced the armonic frecuences of the snare drum

  • DRUM N BASS! Without the bass haha

  • can anyone tell me wat drums this guy uses

  • @UrielYube Yeh Bro, long time no chat, he plays a Pearl Export Prism Blue Kit, as far as i can tell, and im guessing he most likely has zildjian avedis cymbals.

  • @AkimoTheropy thanks man. i knew nothing bout Mutemath and i saw them open up a show a week ago and they blew my mind and of course their drummer did too...i love his style of drumming

  • I met Darren outside a MuteMath gig 4 years ago. He went back inside to get me some sticks. Absolute gent & my favourite drummer around today

  • I met this man. I have touched him.

  • Great band, love the album odd soul. Hope to see them live soon. This is my favorite band! It sounds like they didn't hold back and just let loose in the studio.

  • this is not about if he's good drummer than others or not. He has a different style and please stop saying if he's the best or worst drummer because you don't say this when there's a guitarist or a singer, because there's so many styles and kind o voices, and you play it the way you want, showing your style, and if there's someone who doesn't like it, just don't listen to. He's talented, and he plays the drums with passion, this band is awesome.

  • man this isn't even that good. this guy isn't even showing all his talent on this one. his performance on letterman, now that was good. and i agree no where near a top 20 drummer. so many crazy drummers out there but in the whole indie rock scene one of the best if not the best.

  • Darren King is a Maniac.

  • Although Darren King is a good drummer, and he shows emotion and has actual showmanship on stage, he is technically not even close to being near the top 20 as far as drummers are concerned. Im guessing that most of you also believe Travis Barker is a really good drummer as well...

  • @tskvandal He and Travis are really good in the sense that they can play a song really well. But could they do stuff like Vinnie Colaiuta and Steve Gadd? I think not.

  • @jovtoly just my opinion here, I do not think they are trying to be like that, they jam and have fun, I love the raw energy.

  • @heartlake09 No, I don't think they try to be like that either. I don't think Vinnie Colaiuta or Steve Gadd could play a pop-punk song as well as Travis.

  • @tskvandal actually most people that like darren tend to hate on travis. most musicians understand that different drummers have their own unique styles so what some people dont realize what they are saying is how much they idolize his STYLE of drumming rather than his skill. Yes his style is probably my favorite but yes there are many drummers who are far more technically advanced than he is.

  • Best drummer ever!

  • i'm here to dislike

this clip contains nothing interesting at all

  • i feel like the dislikes are sarcastic

  • i feel like the dislikes are sarcastic

  • do you know who you're talking like that about right now..?

  • Comment removed

  • Wow he fucking sucks.

  • @flybywire09 wow you effing suck.

  • @debbiecaked Sure do! But not as much as this asshole.

  • @flybywire09 do you know who you're talking like that about right now?

  • @flybywire09 lol to each our own i guess

  • screw double bass. thats for people who cant do enough with one

  • The world has got to be moving in slow motion for him. Sick.

  • SERIOUSLY @xXgammarayXx... he is a beast.

To the 700+ that liked this- don't worry about the few dislikes... every generation has a small percent of poor souls that were born deaf.

  • you know you're an insane drummer when you have to duct tape the headphones to your head

  • O_O Wow.

    EPIC!!!

  • Great. Just... wow. He's amazing.

  • i have his drumstick. actually paid the girl in front of me 35 dollars for it at a concert, then met them and got it signed... i thought i mightve offered too much, but watching this video only furthers my conviction that i own the best fucking drumstick in the world

  • @nawookim12 my friend and i got one too in LA. we trade off keeping it. cuz its that cherishable

  • @nawookim12 my autographed Neil Peart stix are really cool. NO, they are not for sale.

  • EVERYONE! A band named City of Thieves ive been following @Cothieves covered thisvideo. Their drummer did well but they recreated everything that is seen here including setting, scenes, and editting.

  • This is why there the best

  • CAN'T STOP REPLAYING......

  • ;) nice i love it !

  • KING!

  • I LIKE TURTLES

  • I love the emotion on his face when he's playing. No Im not gay

  • Exactly-- good drummers play lots of notes for showing off chops.Great drummers play the essential heat-beat of the song. John Bonham of (Led Zepplin) comes off as spectacular becuz he played to the excellent song writing. Stewart Copeland of the Police also played to the essence of the song- Darren King rocks it in my opinion due to the excellent song writing. All (3) of the above players are incredible because of this fact..

  • DARREN KING = BOSS

  • @peaceboy723 no.

  • The King of Kings:)

  • abnormalllll

  • WhAT song was this on?

  • @3leftstotheright It isn't, it's just him screwing around. Which, in Darren King's case, means absolute epicness.

  • His hands....

  • Darren King. Great drummer, great guy.

  • When I practice drumming, this is who I think about. When I say I'm gonna be amazing at drumming one day, I just mean I'll be as half as good as Mr. Darren King over here.

  • Pretty cool, but uh, kind of silly of a video lol. He can move fast, that's cool. I think what he does with the jumping around the stage is cooler, especially with the fact that with an hour a day any drummer could move that fast or do most of what he does in a year maybe less. But what he does on stage, what he does with his work, cannot be measured. All music is opinion.

  • Duct Tape. TOTALLY makes this video worthwhile. HAHAHAHA just kidding. I'm never going to drum again.

  • Okay, so I am a hardcore Blink fan, and am completely in love with Travis Barker, but WOW, Darren is unbelievable.

  • I. Like. Darren. A lot.

  • hello God

  • Thomas Pridgen, Zack Hill, Jon Theodore, Jimmy Chamberlain, Darren King and the jazz legends. - fk metal drummers, all of these guys can get the double kick sound without a double kick pedal + they're all a billion times more talented and creative.

  • @Tubbs2Cool Yeah i really agree with you about those metal drumers... But you have to think that in metal, there are not many chances for drummers to show what's in them... Try to listen to some Nighwish songs (Crownless, fantasmic, Stargazers) Jukka's drums really fit to their music. I don't say it's hard to play, but it's good. But THIS guy is good too.

  • Toma no cu toca demais...

  • hot damn! he actually enjoys it too. a lot of drummers look bored as hell when they sit back there.

  • I can't remember, which track is this beat featured in?

  • ok, darren is not the best drummer I've ever seen...yes I said it. There are so many drummers better than him. But he's also perfect for Mute Math. And this is my point, It's not about who is the better musician but who contributes most to the music

  • @carl9z it all depends on what you consider to be great drumming skills, but you have you right to an opinoin and i won't tread on it

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my god, this guy it´s burning at drums

  • lame

    basic crap beat sped up

  • @AuracleStudios yeap

  • @AuracleStudios you obviously wanted a response....so here you go

  • @AuracleStudios i want to see you do that.haha

  • lame

  • Wow!!! We want to open for MUTE MATH so so so very much.

    Love this band.

    Brian Cook

    WHY

  • now i wanna drum like that. Talk about inspiration & motivation! Dude freakin sweet.

  • now i wanna drum like that.

  • bloody amazing. Blimey!

  • OoO .......HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!

  • crazy, he is really good.

  • lol I can't stop laughing when I watch this now, it's amazing lol. Why's he tape his headphones on at the start?

  • @CooperSnow cuz before they kept falling off. so he fixed that problem by using the magical ducktape (only its black tape)

  • This is so fucking awesome!!!!

  • ALL HAIL KING DARREN!

  • love it.

  • uhhh whos travis barker??? lol

  • pure unadulterated talent

  • what kind of cymbals use this guy?

  • fuck, his left foot

  • Beast. And it's not 175 either, it's like 177.5. Freakin' amazing, man.

  • To the 8 people who put a "thumbs down" on this vid...there is a special place in hell for you. Darren king is THE king of drums. rock on mutemath

  • @Spartus7777777 the only people that probobly put a thumbs down are the ones who did it on accident

  • @Spartus7777777 looks like u didnt ever see good drummers

  • i cant believe some trolls compared him to joey jordison, they are completly different in every way shape or form

  • Utter insanity. Busting out a DnB ride at 175 is nuts. I'm going to see you buys @ Full Sail tomorrow, tear it up, break a leg.

  • all metal drummers arent complete shit but i beleve Jojo mayer beats all :)

  • @MiggytheRin He is amazing.

  • 0:36 pure happiness there

  • @1madmuffin his face is just pure joy. its awesome

  • freaking drum'n'bass rhythm!! he's an extraordinary drummer! and I do agree with the fact that his style is much more interesting than Jordison

  • Darren King is so talented, that the bass drum would be enough for me in this video.

  • i've always loved the simplicity of a few drums xD

except im shitloads less creative than Darren is.

  • @BlackXSouleStudios same here! my kit consists of 22in base drum, 14x7 yamaha oak custom snare, 16in floor tom on my left, 18in floor on my right. and my 18in zildjan ride cymbal (no idea what type it is but its freaking awesome!) no rack toms lol

  • Darren King is just that the King. All the other drummers asking what heads, what cymbals, etc....it doesn't matter. He could be using some crap drums and cymbals and still make them sound beautiful, it's more about the precise timing and technique than the instrument. Comparing him to Joey from slipknot is apples and oranges. Ask Darren to pull off the amazing double bass that Joey does and ask Joey to do what Darren does, they are great in their respective genres.

  • @drummer426 fucking thank you. seriously thank you. you really get it. we could really use more drummers like you in the world. all these people concerned with all this bullshit and feeling obligated to compare and belittle other drummers. Music is just expression and drumming is about having a fucking blast while becoming a pulse. Im so sick of people saying hes better than him or shes not as good. fuck it all just enjoy what you like and let everyone enjoy themselves. to each our own

  • @drummer426 Personally I think Joey sucks. He has absolutely NO talent. I watched a live video of him playing a solo and he was just all over the place. Drugs probably have a lot to do with it too though, where Darren has a sharp mind and doesn't have to worry about the drugs messing with his brain.

  • wow this guy is aweso the best drumer that i´ve ever seen , i wish t be like him when i´ll grove :D

  • @drummer426 Except Jordisan is shit...

  • Very good way to start my day. Sherry said yall were good- sherry knew.

  • sus parches estás tan apañados !! excelente !!

  • cooool

  • can some one tell me every littledrum instrument he uses drumming please i would appreciate it its my birth day i want to get it badly!

  • Whoo Darren you deserve som Kool aid after that take!!!

    Frikkin Epic!!!

  • Amazing! Last snare beat played and I realized my heart rate was going insane and i was having a mini-heart attack!

  • Awe inspiring!

  • i'm a huge darren king and mutemath fan.

however I was very disappointed in the PRODUCTION of the second album. Darren got buried in the mix and consequently they sound really vanilla.

I LOVE the new songs live... saw them in SF last fall.

Does anybody else feel like me about the production on Armistice?

  • i feel ya! I absolutely love the album, of course just because it's mutemath (and how can you not love anything mutemath produces?), but i felt like it had less of the "trance-inducing" and gorgeous sounds that their older music had. it seems like with the older albums, I would hear something different every time I listened to a song, but on Armistice, some of the songs are a bit "noisy".

but i still love it! and you're right, the new songs are AMAZING live

  • hell yeah i mean in the first album darren was just so f'ing emphasized the beats were so damn heavy and packed so much punch and they were so creative ya know? the definitly diluted him in the 2nd album. regardless of the album the concerts for the 2nd album tour our fucking amazing!!! i saw them in LA and wow ive never EVER bin to a show as mind blowing as that. most bands tour to promote their album but mutemath's albums promote their fucking shows!!!

  • what kind of heads are these?

  • Look like Remo Coated to me

  • i am most likely wrong but they look like remo

  • I'm pretty sure he uses Remo Coated Emperors.

  • They look like Smooth white Remo C.Emperors too

  • They are coated and he cut old clear heads and put them on top. You can see two Remo logos (one from the cut out head) on there if you look.

  • The shadow makes it look like he's wearing stockings and underwear :P

  • Does anyone know what that zildjan cymbal he uses is? It's SO versatile!

  • @khankabrinski looks like a sweet ride to me

  • i like the subtle [yes fast =D] math rock rhythms at the end, well, yeah. huh?

  • talking with paul on the mobile listening party he mention that they had written and recored (roughly) 17 songs prior to even beginning any of the armistice recordings. right now they have enough material shelved to produce at least 2 albums more. it is very unlikely that any of these videos caught even demo recordings of anything on Armistice.

  • If you have more info on this IM BEGGING YOU PLEASE FILL ME IN!

  • He's a fucking beast

  • uooww perfeiitoo !

  • He always looks so happy when he plays the drums, like on 0:38

  • There's an online beatcounter, and I get around 360 BPM? Darren is the King on drums.

  • That's right, because he's playing with the metronome at half the speed.

  • you probably counted eighth notes, not quarters.

  • jesus, darren is absolutely ridiculous on the drums

  • i dont know much about drumming, but I do know that was AMAZING

  • i have a question for darren if he gets this....... how frequently did you have to change your drum heads during the recording of armistice? and how many times on tour?

  • how the hell do those drums not fall apart?

  • pretty i just stopped breathing for the duration of that video. thats amazing!

  • FUCK

    he's to good

  • Thats absolutely ridiculous

  • I just saw mutemath tonight and it was awesome! darren king is a beast drummer

  • This guy is awesome live, and oddly, the spitting image of comic actor Will Arnett.

  • does that take two parts of brain or just one? jc!

  • Actually, this is the end of Architecture, a bonus song when you buy it on itunes. It matches up perfectly with the tempo and beat

  • no it isn't. this is in 4/4 time signature and architecture is in 5/4. its not the drums for that song at all

  • Is that what they call "polyrhythm"? mutemath is a math band right?

  • isn't it Spotlight??

  • no, i think it might be Architecture off the new album...that's why it sounds like with the 5/5 time and all. I'd love to find out if anyone knows

  • right, right, right, i hear it now. Ya, I'd agree with you on it being Architecture

  • its not architecture. this is in 4/4 but he just plays an offbeat rhythm

  • fuck the slipknot drummer, he´s just crap! darren king is THE drummer!

  • @TweetyPajaro actually joey jordison is a pretty talented drummer. your comparing apples and oranges. 2 musicians with 2 different styles. king is an amazing drummer, no doubt about it though.

  • @TweetyPajaro Fuck the slipknot drummer? Pffft, fuck your dad, your mom, and your dead grandma. Thank you. ^-^

  • Darren just proves you don't need a billion toms and cymbals to be an amazing drummer. Darren I'm 100% is way better then any metal drummer. I'm pretty sure Darren can school the guy from Slipknot everyone is making a fuss about. I saw his video, and it doesn't compare in style and class that this one has.

  • i am not pretty sure, im 100% certain

  • For sure dude.

  • @DS6FILMS yea but what about the guy from dream theater. there pretty close in skills?

  • @DS6FILMS and thats because joey jordanson sucks dick. but this darren guy is good but in MY OPINION tim waterson is better. if you think darren is better its cool

  • @DS6FILMS dude he doesnt compare to the REV

  • @DS6FILMS zach hill

  • Never mind my question I think I just figured out y lol.

  • I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but why does he put that stuff on his head?

  • Darren King's a beast.

  • yeah..i think thats the nerve..

  • no, it has to be electrify

  • but it's not the same beat, i guess this isn't in the album after all :/

  • Well its not going to be this same exact beat, but its there though, I know it

  • i've listened to every song and the only one that comes close bpm wise is electrify and that's a completely different beat. maybe its on one of the bonus tracks?

  • No, the bonus songs arent like this, this IS Electrify. I swear it is

  • but it's not the same beat at all

  • Thats what you obviously dont understand man, its not going to be the same as this as in the song, they have to change is a little, but during the chorus of the song, this goes perfectly along with it, they started out with this as just an experiment, and then added it into the song, but had to make it go with the song, its the same BPM
