@UrielYube Yeh Bro, long time no chat, he plays a Pearl Export Prism Blue Kit, as far as i can tell, and im guessing he most likely has zildjian avedis cymbals.
@AkimoTheropy thanks man. i knew nothing bout Mutemath and i saw them open up a show a week ago and they blew my mind and of course their drummer did too...i love his style of drumming
Great band, love the album odd soul. Hope to see them live soon. This is my favorite band! It sounds like they didn't hold back and just let loose in the studio.
this is not about if he's good drummer than others or not. He has a different style and please stop saying if he's the best or worst drummer because you don't say this when there's a guitarist or a singer, because there's so many styles and kind o voices, and you play it the way you want, showing your style, and if there's someone who doesn't like it, just don't listen to. He's talented, and he plays the drums with passion, this band is awesome.
man this isn't even that good. this guy isn't even showing all his talent on this one. his performance on letterman, now that was good. and i agree no where near a top 20 drummer. so many crazy drummers out there but in the whole indie rock scene one of the best if not the best.
Although Darren King is a good drummer, and he shows emotion and has actual showmanship on stage, he is technically not even close to being near the top 20 as far as drummers are concerned. Im guessing that most of you also believe Travis Barker is a really good drummer as well...
@tskvandal He and Travis are really good in the sense that they can play a song really well. But could they do stuff like Vinnie Colaiuta and Steve Gadd? I think not.
@heartlake09 No, I don't think they try to be like that either. I don't think Vinnie Colaiuta or Steve Gadd could play a pop-punk song as well as Travis.
@tskvandal actually most people that like darren tend to hate on travis. most musicians understand that different drummers have their own unique styles so what some people dont realize what they are saying is how much they idolize his STYLE of drumming rather than his skill. Yes his style is probably my favorite but yes there are many drummers who are far more technically advanced than he is.
i have his drumstick. actually paid the girl in front of me 35 dollars for it at a concert, then met them and got it signed... i thought i mightve offered too much, but watching this video only furthers my conviction that i own the best fucking drumstick in the world
EVERYONE! A band named City of Thieves ive been following @Cothieves covered thisvideo. Their drummer did well but they recreated everything that is seen here including setting, scenes, and editting.
Exactly-- good drummers play lots of notes for showing off chops.Great drummers play the essential heat-beat of the song. John Bonham of (Led Zepplin) comes off as spectacular becuz he played to the excellent song writing. Stewart Copeland of the Police also played to the essence of the song- Darren King rocks it in my opinion due to the excellent song writing. All (3) of the above players are incredible because of this fact..
When I practice drumming, this is who I think about. When I say I'm gonna be amazing at drumming one day, I just mean I'll be as half as good as Mr. Darren King over here.
Pretty cool, but uh, kind of silly of a video lol. He can move fast, that's cool. I think what he does with the jumping around the stage is cooler, especially with the fact that with an hour a day any drummer could move that fast or do most of what he does in a year maybe less. But what he does on stage, what he does with his work, cannot be measured. All music is opinion.
Thomas Pridgen, Zack Hill, Jon Theodore, Jimmy Chamberlain, Darren King and the jazz legends. - fk metal drummers, all of these guys can get the double kick sound without a double kick pedal + they're all a billion times more talented and creative.
@Tubbs2Cool Yeah i really agree with you about those metal drumers... But you have to think that in metal, there are not many chances for drummers to show what's in them... Try to listen to some Nighwish songs (Crownless, fantasmic, Stargazers) Jukka's drums really fit to their music. I don't say it's hard to play, but it's good. But THIS guy is good too.
ok, darren is not the best drummer I've ever seen...yes I said it. There are so many drummers better than him. But he's also perfect for Mute Math. And this is my point, It's not about who is the better musician but who contributes most to the music
@BlackXSouleStudios same here! my kit consists of 22in base drum, 14x7 yamaha oak custom snare, 16in floor tom on my left, 18in floor on my right. and my 18in zildjan ride cymbal (no idea what type it is but its freaking awesome!) no rack toms lol
Darren King is just that the King. All the other drummers asking what heads, what cymbals, etc....it doesn't matter. He could be using some crap drums and cymbals and still make them sound beautiful, it's more about the precise timing and technique than the instrument. Comparing him to Joey from slipknot is apples and oranges. Ask Darren to pull off the amazing double bass that Joey does and ask Joey to do what Darren does, they are great in their respective genres.
@drummer426 fucking thank you. seriously thank you. you really get it. we could really use more drummers like you in the world. all these people concerned with all this bullshit and feeling obligated to compare and belittle other drummers. Music is just expression and drumming is about having a fucking blast while becoming a pulse. Im so sick of people saying hes better than him or shes not as good. fuck it all just enjoy what you like and let everyone enjoy themselves. to each our own
@drummer426 Personally I think Joey sucks. He has absolutely NO talent. I watched a live video of him playing a solo and he was just all over the place. Drugs probably have a lot to do with it too though, where Darren has a sharp mind and doesn't have to worry about the drugs messing with his brain.
i feel ya! I absolutely love the album, of course just because it's mutemath (and how can you not love anything mutemath produces?), but i felt like it had less of the "trance-inducing" and gorgeous sounds that their older music had. it seems like with the older albums, I would hear something different every time I listened to a song, but on Armistice, some of the songs are a bit "noisy".
but i still love it! and you're right, the new songs are AMAZING live
hell yeah i mean in the first album darren was just so f'ing emphasized the beats were so damn heavy and packed so much punch and they were so creative ya know? the definitly diluted him in the 2nd album. regardless of the album the concerts for the 2nd album tour our fucking amazing!!! i saw them in LA and wow ive never EVER bin to a show as mind blowing as that. most bands tour to promote their album but mutemath's albums promote their fucking shows!!!
talking with paul on the mobile listening party he mention that they had written and recored (roughly) 17 songs prior to even beginning any of the armistice recordings. right now they have enough material shelved to produce at least 2 albums more. it is very unlikely that any of these videos caught even demo recordings of anything on Armistice.
i have a question for darren if he gets this....... how frequently did you have to change your drum heads during the recording of armistice? and how many times on tour?
@TweetyPajaro actually joey jordison is a pretty talented drummer. your comparing apples and oranges. 2 musicians with 2 different styles. king is an amazing drummer, no doubt about it though.
Darren just proves you don't need a billion toms and cymbals to be an amazing drummer. Darren I'm 100% is way better then any metal drummer. I'm pretty sure Darren can school the guy from Slipknot everyone is making a fuss about. I saw his video, and it doesn't compare in style and class that this one has.
@DS6FILMS and thats because joey jordanson sucks dick. but this darren guy is good but in MY OPINION tim waterson is better. if you think darren is better its cool
i've listened to every song and the only one that comes close bpm wise is electrify and that's a completely different beat. maybe its on one of the bonus tracks?
Thats what you obviously dont understand man, its not going to be the same as this as in the song, they have to change is a little, but during the chorus of the song, this goes perfectly along with it, they started out with this as just an experiment, and then added it into the song, but had to make it go with the song, its the same BPM
Has to be Architecture.

I saw his video, and it doesn't compare in style and class that this one has.

buttcheese96 2 years ago
but it's not the same beat, i guess this isn't in the album after all :/
mindphlux 2 years ago
Well its not going to be this same exact beat, but its there though, I know it
buttcheese96 2 years ago
i've listened to every song and the only one that comes close bpm wise is electrify and that's a completely different beat. maybe its on one of the bonus tracks?
mindphlux 2 years ago
No, the bonus songs arent like this, this IS Electrify. I swear it is
buttcheese96 2 years ago
but it's not the same beat at all
mindphlux 2 years ago
Thats what you obviously dont understand man, its not going to be the same as this as in the song, they have to change is a little, but during the chorus of the song, this goes perfectly along with it, they started out with this as just an experiment, and then added it into the song, but had to make it go with the song, its the same BPM
