thank you very much for this, colormemichael. you have been generous and you have shared with us the best, in the same way that barbra share with us her best.
Funny how she entered the business with such a clear vision of who she wanted to be as an artist–famously insisting on the power to choose her own material (unheard of at the time for a new act signing her first recording contract)–only to lose confidence (or maybe interest?) around 1970 and proceed to flounder from genre to genre for the rest of her career. nobody sings crap so beautifully as barbra. but it's hard not to wish there had been more, more, more of the great stuff.
Notice how the arrangement "doubles" her voice, which was very much a recording style in the 50s and 60s. Lesley Gore and Petula Clark did it all the time on their songs but I can't think of another on which Streisand was asked to do it.
Another rare Streisand classic,I own this 45 and have played it millions of times, seems odd Barbra has so many out of print 45's which would make a rare All Time Greatest Hits Album,Get with it Bab's your sitiing on a Gold Mind of songs that just need to be re released
This came out in Feb.1968 (early),and got the hell played out of it by MOI. I had just started in radio, and loved this record. I was never really crazy about "La Streidant,"as I called her waaaaay back then, but I thought this should have been a hit...Columbia "in house" woo oo girls, and all!!!!! On this single, she had talent!! I HAVETHE RECORD.
A curio, to be sure. But it's not a particularly good song. It would take her a few more years to conquer "pop" music. And with the notable exception of, say, Laura Nyro, the radio drivel she would spend the '70s recording is just that - drivel. Harlold Arlen it ain't.
This was released in the 70's and I loved how different is was I bought 3 copies when it came out

Very much a Lesley Gore-type song, right down to the arrangement.

remember william b. williams? he would play her early
stuff all the time. boy, to hear that early voice. i'm glad
roslyn kind kept that voice quality, too bad she abandoned
a career.
