Do you know how WW2 in Russia started ? At 4 am in the morning, there was a massive bombardemnt of the cities, hundreds of bombers and artillery fire.

Maybe it is funny for someone, but not for russians - 20% of all russians on earth died during that war. Every fifth. So that means almost 90% of families had casualties and 99% of them had at least one heavily wounded relative.

WW2 in Poland started pretty much the same. And that was partially thanks to Russia, where German planes and tanks practiced their Blitzkrieg during 1930'ies.

Stalin has to win some time for preparing country to war. If USSR fallen in WW2, USA would have been the only country to fight vs. Germany. And it is across the ocean - not good for war actions.
