Very talented singer...ahh...and guitar player as well. The theatre looks old and well preserved too. Those are the best venues in my opinion. I wanna tease a little about the date though, seems like "Back to the Future".New Years Eve 2009?Now that we're friends can I call you Bean_Blossom? :-)

Thanks so much, Thomas! This is my wonderful niece and her friends. The theater is lovely, it's been home to many programs for the Blacksburg community for many years. You are the only person to mention the NYE 2009 issue...but technically, that is correct. I had to look it up before I wrote the description...but it is technically the eve of the 2009 new year, not the 2008 new year. It looks funny though, doesn't it? And...YES, you can call me bean blossom... lol

I know you folks are very busy, Liz... am just glad you have time to hear some of the musicians I send 'round. WOAH!!! Too close to home, Suze. I couldn't begin to count the hours I spent in the Lyric. In the 60s and 70s, of course, it was THE movie theater in town. And around the corner on Draper was a coffeehouse named Books, Strings and Things. That's where I first shook Doc Watson's hand.

My nephew told me there'd been some major renovations recently, and it looks gorgeous! It's a landmark, and it SHOULD be preserved.

Your niece has a LETHAL blues voice! Powerful singer!

Thanks for this wonderfully personal comment, Moosie! The Lyric is now owned by the town and is part of a growing community arts center. BS&T closed many years ago. Used to see Richard around town all the time but not lately... That's so cool that you were a Lyric kinda guy back in the 60s and 70s...not a surprise at all! Do you remember Gillie's Restaurant on the corner between the Lyric and BS&T? It's still there...still serving great food! :)

I think it's fantastic that the town is preserving some of this great history. The Lyric is a treasure.

Nostalgia... sigh... I knew Richard before he opened BS&T. I hung out with a bunch of hippy musicians, and he was one of them. I was among his first customers the day he opened. I lost touch in 80 when I moved here, but my nephew told me he'd closed down a while back. If Gillie's still has any of their original fixtures, my butt print is probably worn in a chair there somewhere... :-)

And then... A couple of doors down from BS&T was John's Camera Corner. I knew John when he was in school, and he built himself quite a business. I bought all my photo supplies from him, and I eventually bought his boat when I moved here. We'd kept it on Claytor, and it was named "The Yellow Submarine." He knows why. LOL

Remember DaVinci's Attic? On the 2nd floor but with the entrance between the Lyric and Gillie's? I helped John and a few other friends build it.

:) I remember all of those places very well. Did not know John though. The originalhippies still come to Steppin' Out the first weekend in August. It's the old Deadwood Days, renamed after somebody actually died during the festival. Gillie's has exactly the same fixtures and chairs. lol The 114 Club is gone and Bob Margolin no longer comes to town to play...those were the days! Richard was the only person in Blacksburg with a copy of "Tonto's Expanding Headband".... lol
