  • What's the difference? Who's the better player, Zoot or Ben Webster? Can't we dig them both without getting into the Race crap? Stupid is also stupid. GSU sucks. Don't waste your time or money withe the bigoted trash there..

  • I DIG THESE CATS! Man, I'd sure love to sit in with these guys! Sweet gig!

  • I saw them both separately this week. Harry Allen with Jim Galloway and Scott Hamilton at Quotes (with CJQ) last night at Quotes on King St. in Toronto.

Both excellent, but S.H. handles his instrustrument like a love of his life!

One of the best sax players alive.

  • These guys have total control of their instruments. How refreshing that the music of Al and Zoot , et al, is in good hands!

  • But you do have to ask...70 years from now, will old

white guys be trying to imitate David Murray or

Tupac or some rapper using the same basic lick

vocabulary mixed up in a blender? I hope not.

This music is not offensive but it's quite boring.

At least Zoot Sims had some original licks.

  • @Roboviewer It's a tribute. They don't play licks all the time.

  • @Roboviewer Al Cohn actually played with Scott Hamilton and has praised him in interviews as one of his favorite younger players.

  • Great music!

    Thanx for uploading.

  • great guys ... :)

  • I love the way these guys have so much to say without having to resort to the altissimo register, maybe its not a modern approach but the effortless execution as well as the content of all of those passages must be admired by all who appreciate good jazz

  • I was told by s stupid professor at Georgia State University that I played like an "Old White Man". Thanks for the compliment, Dickhead......

  • @terrryc ... I wanna play like an 'old white man too'... :-)

  • @terrryc You should have tried to play like an Old Black Man. ;)

  • @terrryc Is that comment really necessary?

  • Good Stuff! Two very good horn players and a piano man who doesn't get in the way.

    Good rhythm section.

  • I went to Rutgers with him and Ralph Bowen. Harry not only blows his face off, but he even won against me in chocolate milk drinking contests... you'll have to ask him about that... LOL Terrific playing!

  • This is sublime times two!

  • No words necessary.... just this:

    ;-)

  • I like the way Harrys hand movements are very minimal. One of the marks of a great player. Both are great players particularly like the sound of that horn harrys got in his hand.

  • Harry Allen and Scott Hamilton are wonderfully talented. I haven't seen them in over twenty years. Keep it going fellows.

  • E X C E L E N T E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Zoot would be pleased.

  • can someone post "time after time" from scott's album "THE SECOND SET". thanks for this one.

  • Superb!

  • Fantastic video! I especially enjoy Harry's solo. The stuff he does at the turn arounds were just amazing! I transcribed some of his never-ending runs from this video, and THEY ARE HARD! He made them sound effortless.

    Great stuff! Thanks for posting!

  • HARRY!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 0:56 PIM FORTUYN achter de piano !!!! :D

  • fabulous stuff

  • One of the best jazz videos I've seen on YouTube. Thanks for posting this.

  • tenors lil' rhody style!

  • Thanks for the post. Gadz, you could spend eternity on u-tube. And thats just in one genre

  • I saw Scott Hamilton at Ipswich Jazz club he was great and love his style.

  • I love how they use the " Webster's Solo" like the head of the song!! Excellent!!!

  • I went to school with Harry...I played with him in Stage Band.

  • You've got another quote at 2:55: Pick-A-Rib, recorded by Benny Goodman with Hampton, Wilson and Krupa. Hurray for Scott Hamilton and Harry Allen

This video is amazing! The bass player is wonderful.

  • Awesome. Swings....

  • I can't think of what song the quote at 2:00 for the life of me! help?

  • Raincheck ;-)

  • Haha thanks. I actually remembered it some time last night, I knew it because I was working on transcribing Joe Hendersons solo on it. Great tune.

  • That Joe Henderson solo is so great.

  • Sounds a little like "Strike Up the Band," but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

  • argh me too! it's drivin me nuts!

  • ITP09 already answered, It's the song Raincheck

  • I just spent the weekend listening to Harry. He is great and a very nice guy. He is accessible and willing to share ideas with younger players. He is from a better time!!

  • Every time I hear Harry Allen i think to myself, nobody could play this better. Different, but not better. This guy could directly come out of a time machine from the 40's

  • I know the bass player is Dave Green and the drummer is Steve Brown, but does anyone know who is on keys?

  • It says who the pianist is in the info box, does no one read these details!

  • It's kind of funny, I love Scott Hamilton but never really cared for Harry Allen. The more I watch this the more I like and appreciate his ideas, and the way he compliments Scott.

  • Haha, that drummer has got quite the shnoz...But this video still kicks ass. Long live the throw-back swingers!

  • Can you watch this without smiling?

  • Great playing from the two tenors and what a rhythm section. I just love Steve Brown's work, tasteful, listening and swings like mad. Plays for the band and not for himself.

  • I love Scott Hamilton!

  • I was having a smoke with Scott Hamilton in between sets at the Bulls Head, London last week.

    How cool is that!!!

  • I used to play at The Bulls Head with Willie Garnett when I lived there '97-2000!

  • It's the best Jazz club in London!

    Nice one! :-)

  • I agree. Nothing like that in America.

  • the two best exponants of this type of jazz today awsome clip

  • nice trading, groove, swing...
