I am in the process of getting a Boxer puppy and am torn as to wether I should get his ears and tail cropped. Is there a medical reason for cropping the ears like ear infection etc and do they feel it?
@ladyjayeden75 they definently feel it unless you do it after 3 months in which then they would be under anesthesia and even then they would be at risk of infection. its more of a personal prefence really.
@ladyjayeden75 Ear cropping and tail docking in dogs for cosmetic purposes are not medically indicated nor of benefit to the patient. These procedures can cause pain and distress, and as with all surgical procedures, are accompanied by inherent risks of anesthesia, blood loss, and infection.
@ladyjayeden75 youre welcome! mines is all naturl too! i have a video up you should check out! i though about it too but didnt do it because i just couldnt justify that. maybe if you show them i guess then it could be okay. most contries have made it illegal to do so.
@ladyjayeden75 Docked and cropped was the standard years ago when they were working dogs used for hunting because the ears and tail were easily injured. Nowadays, D+C is mostly for cosmetic reasons although I have heard that they can break their tails quite easily. I have a 9 month old fawn named Bowser who is docked and floppy. Congratulations on choosing the Boxer =) They are such lovable dogs.
@AerithGreatGospel The ideology behind tail docking is just pure stupid! Dogs need their tails for balance when running. Tails are not just there for show, they have a specific purpose. Thankfully this disgusting act has now been banned in my country and rightly so.

Baloney!!!
high maintenance, and they have hard-core separation anxiety....and need constant attention...
@trollgoal Maybe you should ask your vet about that? There is a difference between liking his people and a boxer having seperation anxiety. For example, if I leave the room and he knows I'm home, mine will whine and cry if he can't come with me, but if I put him in his crate and leave the house, he's silent as a mouse. I know this because I've put him in his crate in the past while I was just outside the window doing yardwork.
"sometimes boisterous and stubborn" lol very true, but not too big of a deal, boxers are still the best breed in my opinion, i would never get any other dog breed. mostly everything this guy is saying is exactly how my boxer is, he was originally pretty disobedient but i managed to fix that in no time, now he is a very good dog, very intelligent, fun to play with, but i have to disagree when he says they are wary of strangers because my boxer definetly is not
Stereotyping breeds...."they do this, they are like that"
Is not a good Idea, there is variation in all breeds.
This video is too generalising and comes off incredibly novice.
People use this information when choosing a breed that is right for them...these people need to be able to keep this dog from 8 to 15 years. @agostoproductions Hmm I figured as much. Cosmetic isn't worth it to me, I'll just leave him o'natural. Thanks ;)

@ladyjayeden75 Most breeders already have their tails docked. I don't know why you would have to do so.
