to all the judgemental bastards who posted negative comments about this accident , the driver was my 2nd cousin and had diabetes . it can affect people many ways . a close friend of mine threatened to kill me and once he was given a can of coke he was back to his usual self . this condition can worsen rapidly without the sufferers knowledge . my father suffers from diabetes and i know how it affects him . lay off with the negative comments . by all accounts mark was a fine man .
Mark 21 months have almost passed since this horrific day. I cannot express how hard we have all tried, to explain this in your defense. We who love you, will always know, and always speak the only truth that was March 31,2008. You suffered a deadly diabetic low, and ultimately it took your prescious life. You were a hero to keep others from harm, but such a painful cost to pay.
When you know how to spell ie "there" instead of "their", and can speak without the profanity, then maybe you will have some authority on Canadian. My husband is a truck in and around Edmonton and this was a tragic accident where a person died. The coroner's report came back and he had died before the crash. Some family lost a brother and father and is greiving.
Furthermore, banning trucks?? Remember 9/11?? They only shut down airplanes for one day and the backlog took weeks to straighten out... Now, imagine the basic necessities like food that wouldn't get delivered if we kept trucks off the road...yes, even for a few hours!! What did you think?? Are they gonna drive trains to the grocery store?? Or maybe SMART people like you would prefer your groceries to be delivered by helicopters?? Again.....shake your head and listen to the marbles!!!
OK......whoa!! In this particular case, an operator of a commercial vehicle did so in an extremely unsafe manner....however does that mean that everyone driving a car is retarded because one guy driving a car does something stupid on video??? Give your head a shake....do you hear that?? Those are the marbles rolling around where you could have had a brain, but you think up such ridiculous things!!!
Semi rigs should be limited to the road between 2 am and 6 am. Truckers are deadly, unprofessional people. Ive seen maniac truckers too many times intimidating me from behind with their size. YOU ARE SCUM. Trucks=death, the STATISTICS say it all, so anyone with missing teeth comments STFU.
You do not want to go there Montipellier. You do not want to go there. I suppose by your logic that bus drivers, air plane pilots, or any other normal person is a terorist too? Out of all the trucks on the road, small percentage of them have wrecks. And just as Tr2u1ck says, a very good percentage of semi wrecks are due to idiot 4 wheelrs driving like the trucks aren't there or can stop on a dime. To me you're an ignorant idiot. Go play in the middle of the interstate at rush hour, please.
all i can give u is that IF trucks were the real cause of accidents, there would be more truck/car collisions than there are car/car wrecks.
it would not suprise me if bus/car crashes started to jump because i see them going over 70 (mph) on the interstates when my company truck is stuck at 62..
It wasn't diabetic shock. Mark Santos' autopsy revealed that there was nothing wrong with his blood sugar or his insulin.... he was completely mentally capable and physically capable during his 20 km drive...
Wow good thing he didn't take out anyone else. Whether he was nuts, sick, or whatever else his actions were out of hand and ended tragically for him but they were his actions. You can call it suicide, you can call it an accident, it doesn't change the outcome.
RIP mark and bless his family and friends, it makes me sick to read all the comments on here from low life people that all think they have the answers. We will never know for sure. lets just be thankful that no one else was hurt or killed by this. I am ashamed to say that I am in the trucking industry and have been for many years. its not the same now as years ago, because all the truckers today think they are all invincible. good luck with your carriers you will need it ...
Ty.. Mark took sick behind the wheel. Out of his control, so unaware of what was going on. Dr s gave him a clean bill of health and for this.. ihurt harder to see these things ty for you.
I can not believe the bullshit being said on here about this man, do you think for one second that he would have been behind the wheel of the truck if he had known he was going to end up in the state he was in. as an old truck driver my self it amazes me that so many people that drive like ass holes in four wheelers can put down a man that was out doing the job he was to deliver all the shit you have in your homes and on your table.
whats the big deal about this video???? this video was made from pieces of the story that was aired on Global in crappy quality (sorry), why so much hate?
are you fucking kidding me ok ? he drove the wrong fucking way down yellow head. now if you are from edmonton you would know that this is no. easy task ok. if you seen where the crash was he was driving a semi not a honda civic!!! he also drove for like 10-15kms just to get to the bridge.
and as far him being in diabetic shock... he fucking swerved at my car.
ok HE was fucking fine... all he wanted to do was hurt people hes a goof loser!!
All those fools who jumped to the wrong conclusions about Mark Santos' accident as being a suicide can eat their words today. Although some of us were smart enough to know that his family knew best why his accident happened, others, like the fool interviewed here, will hopefully have the parts to just as publicly eat their words. His family has gone through the wringer since losing him, people like the guy interviewed here owe them all one HUGE apology. So, step up and say you were WRONG.
Wrong about what? this is old news, everyone has there comments and opinions about news, everyone around the world comments on all news so stop thinking this is the only wrong sad thing that happened in the world. Much more worse gruesome things happen too and anyone and everyone has the freedom to think and say what they want, they only know whats been put on the news
no one gives a shit anymore. The only thing people cared about is this nutjob didn't kill anyone else. Even if they said now that it was diabetes that caused the wreck, the fucking moron shouldn't have been behind the wheel in the first place. he fucked up, plain and simple. Quit using the fucking diabetes card as a cop out.
you were the only person that didn't give a shit beemanPG. If you look at all of your posts, objectively and critically, you will see plainly that you are actually incapable of caring..beyond your self. This bit of info leads back to your use of terminology, ie 'nutjob'. It seems to this observer that you are clinically, legally, and morally without the capacity to justify calling any one a 'nutjob'. I cannot respond to you with insults simply for the fact that you obviously need clinical help.
No, most people didn't give a shit. We are tired of society being forced to feel sorry for people that don't deserve it. We aren't all equal, not everything is justified. Mark Santos was a fucking moron that should've never been behind the wheel. It would've been interesting to see how many of you would've still defended him if he had killed someone. I'm thankful he died. Most others are as well. It's simple minded people such as yourself that feel sorry for the fucker
I hope to oneday not see this post in my mind. He was not a moron, but a young fiance, and daddy who was given a clean bill of health and sent back out to work. It beats me to see you write this.. plz stop..
Suicide maybe. they say in other reports he went into diabetic shock. I drive semi and it would be pretty hard to drive a semi straight for 15kms without hitting something if you were in serious medical distress. Most diabetics know when there sugar is getting too low do they not?
it is so sad to read the many cruel posts about the young man who died in this wreck. All I know is this, he was dearly loved by many. He racked up more friends and people who would love him in his short life than many do after living three times longer. One thing is certain, God Loves this boy, and thankfuly, he isn't affected by the cruelty of those who have cruelly attacked him on this site. RIP Mark, and please pray for us all from where you are.
whoa!! thats crazy!! omg!!! that happened the day i went in for my appointment, in march!! i live not far from edmonton!! that is some crazy stuff! i had to take a detour off of the whitemud from that, made me 15 minutes late for my appointment that day!! i knew something happened but i didnt know it was that bad!
The real unfortunate thing about this is that he died alone rather than take a bunch of immigrants with him, hey it's not like we don't have several thousand to spare-since the topic seems to be the menaces of the highway
I had a boss that was a bad diabetic. If he let his sugar level drop too far he would get delusional and act like he was drunk. He had been stopped by the cops more than once because he was believed to be drunk. You can function but are out off it and when its over you don't remember a thing. I walked into work and he was watching hockey on TV. I asked him about the game and he said it aint hockey but I dont know what it is. He looked normal and was way out of it. Diabetes is bad shit.
And for any idiot that thinks this tool did this because of a medical reason, that's fine, but that medical condition could've only been mental retardation (aka:being a waterhead).
There is no possible way he drove 40km's without wrecking until he hit the city.
And the women filming this needs a kick in the cunt. Shut up stupid, it isn't anyone you know fucking up.
no brakes, thats dumb he has a neutral gear and a reverse, why not use reverse to lock the tires or siply put in neutral and grind against rhe guard rail, this guy was not sober or in his right mind
You obviously dont have a clue what your talking about curt12. have you ever even driven a truck like that before? i doubt it because you would know that there is no way you could simply put it in reverse, the transmissions dont work like that. and there is now way a guardrail can stop a truck that heavy. That is why truckers get mad when people cut in front of them when there isnt any room, because them cant stop.
Angiebad is my little sister. She is upset about a family friend who died in the accident. The man did have type one diebeties and discussion on that is fine. Anyone who knew this man knows this was a accident that needs to be discussed to prevent in the future. Unless your a speacialist on the body when its going into Hypoglycemic whitch has symptoms include tiredness, dizziness, confusion, increased heart rate, and a cold, clammy feeling.
We are sick and tired of: 1. Our Government 2. Lying scum politicians 3. Lobbyist buying off politicians 4. Outsourcing of American Jobs to foreign countries 5. Illegal Immigrants coming in, using up our resources and our government is doing next to nothing about it. 6. Confirmed Voting Fraud. 7. Biased Media. 8. Eroding value of the US Dollar. 9. America is 9 TRILLION dollars in debt. 10. Constitutional Rights being chipped away.
Prove us otherwise. You know what happened there just as much as we do, but we have the chance to be objective when viewing it because we did not know the victim.
If you don't want to watch the video and be reminded THEN STOP WATCHING THE VIDEO. Simple as that, walk away from your computer.
this is exactly the video that was aired on the news that millions of others have seen too. why should this video be removed? its just another video about crashes. did Global get any complaints to stop running the home video that the woman submitted?
As a lifetime long- haul trucker I say that close to 50% of accidents are caused by dozing on the road. I have retired before I got involved in an accident.
First>>>Driving semi-trailers myself, it impossible to stay on the road for 15km while unconscious. Try driving 5 seconds by closing your eyes. I can see 1km, having a heart attack, dropping your pack of cigarette on the floor or even a long sneeze. Beside, he had to take the wrong lane to start with and "the on ramp" has a sharp turn before it become straight. Several people were flashing their lights.
Second>>>If he had a medical issue and was going unconscious on and off, any driver would have applied the maxi. Semi-trailer have "air system" and in worse case scenario that your legs, brain or heart come and go he just had to apply the park brake with his hand. It would have locked all the wheels except steering. His hands were obviously working since he manages to keep the steering wheel straight unless his right arm was broken too???
anyone who thinks this happened because the driver had "diabetes" and was passed out at the wheel for 40 kms should kill themselves now. The fat bastard who said he saw him like that was in a minivan, what's he going to see.
And I'm just happy stupid died, and that he didn't kill anyone else. One less psychopath to deal with.
I personally don't know how it could be anything related to a coma/him falling asleep etc. He drove 15 km weaving in and out of the wrong lane between barriers. You can't do that in a coma.
The local paper here said he had a perfect driving record and freinds/family said he was a very responsible fellow. He had type 1 diabetes and it's well known that if these type of diabetics allow their blood sugar to fall too low, they can either fall into a coma or enter a very delutional and disoriented state. Some witnesses said it looked like he was trying to dodge traffic.
Incidently, the local paer stated he DID have prior accidents due to his diabeties.
I feel for the family in loosing a loved one. The coments that all truckers are the most unsafe are extremely wrong. I drive a semi for a living and have had many near misses in this city due to the stupidity of other drivers thinking that we can stop on a dime and continue to cut in front of me just to get to the next red light. I would think that the idiots zipping in and out of traffic might think again and try doing close to the speed limit.
I totally agree with you. I have been driving a 5 ton beverage body for fifteen years. People say to me "with all that weight you must be able to stop on a dime" some people think that big trucks=bigger brakes=stop faster.
thats such a misunderstanding of physics. Ur rite, theyre 4getting that the amount of force a 5 ton vehicle has when moving 65mph is MUCH greater than a 1 ton vehicle moving at the same speed. Probably down shiftin and the pneumatic breaks are good way 2 slow down, but the long vehicle, with a pivot point and high center of gravity probably isn't helpful
and its not proven. and if he did he should have not been driving period. so he had a insulin attack for 25 min, from stony plain to Edmonton.if i was that driver wouldn't i have been in the ditch or crashed by then.
how do you know you know this person his name was not released.the only was you know this is if the police called and told you them selves.i have been on the news for a few weeks and i know that when it comes to this kind of things they do not give any names or information until the investigation is finished
i've lived in edmonton for 3 years and i've seen 3 crashes that could compete with this, from the window of the bus. Just the other night my girlfriend drove and got stuck behind a accident where she saw them pull 2 dead bodies away. Nobody can deny it happens a lot here, not just accidents but violence as well. It's really high here but to live here u just need to accept it.
that was one of my friends big brother driving that truck.
im pretty sure his family wouldnt apprieciate this video on youtube.
your an ignorant piece of shit man.
think of what the family is thnking right now if they have to see that
seriously take this off. im pretty sure the family wouldnt want to be reminded of there horrible loss. and its not like he ment to do that. he had a diabetic attack.
Oh shut up. My mum has had diabetes and has never driven the wrong way down a highway endangering the lives of hundreds of others. He was aware enough to keep the vehicle on the road so he was aware enough to realize he was going to wrong way and pull over. This was on purpose and whether you want to admit it to yourself or not it's the truth.
Why are you on the internet looking at the video anyways? Because you wanted to see it too. Go console your family.
#1 just because your mom has not driven the wrong way with Diabetes doesn't mean Angiebadd is wrong.
Try reading up on Diabetes and what an Insulin attack can cause. Get your facts straight before you go telling someone to shut up or that they are wrong.
My father has diabetes, i watched him go in and out of conciousness for 3 days due to an insulin attack before he was diagnosed with Diabetes. It is very well possible that this is what happened.
Fine, even on the off chance that he did actually drive all that distance without realizing it then he shouldn't have been driving in the first place. His family themselves said in an interview that he had caused MANY crashes in the past because of this problem. If he was a responsible person he wouldn't have been driving the truck in the first place because his condition obviously made it unsafe to do so.
not to mention the drivers here are extremely bad and wreckless compared to other cities in canada, and the roads are almost asking for accidents to happen
i think stuff like this isnt so rare in edmonton, it just never gets caught on film.. i've seen some pretty horrific car crashes that could compete with this.. it is the capital of canada for vehicle related deaths..
3 years, i've seen 1 person get shot, 1 person die while crossing the road on whyte ave, 1 stabbing in a club on a relatively early wednesday night, 1 roomate get stabbed by a group of guys in a supposedly safe neighbourhood.. that is just the violence, car crashes are much more common. You may have lived here for 35 years but how many of those years were you sleeping?
you must be hanging out with the wrong crowd because i've lived here my whole life and yes i've heard of things like that happening, but still have yet to witness anything. not saying it doesn't happen but most people don't witness that many incidents.
i think most people in general dont usually see it.. i never saw it till i moved here but, i wouldnt say its cause of the crowd.. mostly either university students or people from the office i work in.
living downtown will put u closer to it all though...
Are you a gangster or something that you have see a stabbing and someone get shot? I think that you are so full of s**t. Maybe you are the one who has been sleeping and those are just your nightmares...
There are plenty of medical conditions that can cause someone to drive that far in an impaired state. Elevated ammonia levels in the blood from a liver condition or a diabetic could do something of the sort and can be completely unaware of their situation.
What a wonderfully ignorant and bigoted comment. I work EMS here in Canada and worked almost a year in California. Trust me, the difference isn't that big.
Let's look at the averages. Canada, as a country, has a lower population than California. The 4th largest state out of 50. So, it stands to reason that a country with an overwhelmingly larger population would have higher incidents of MANY things. The fact remains that most Canadians get their info from CNN and actually remain ignorant of many of the issues in the US.
What a surprise. Another ignorant, redneck, inbreeding Albertan hiding in their anonymity on YouTube. You may not like the US, but they are the one's buying your oil and gas and feeding you, you hick.
Unlike you, I paid attention in school. I live in Canada, knob. I'm an immigrant that contributes to the welfare of my community. I've also been to 11 other countries where I conducted myself respectfully. Luckily, I didn't grow up to become an ignorant, bigoted, retard like a surprising number of the Canadians I've met.
I think this extends a little further past not knowing how to drive, please use a little more consideration when commenting or you subject yourself to ridicule. My guess is he was extremely sleep deprived or suicidal. Apparently he was driving in the wrong lane for 20 minutes, which would shift towards suicide, but who knows. R.I.P man. There is nothing good that comes from this.
so why the fuck was he going the wrong way? and why didn't he stop?

I walked into work and he was watching hockey on TV. I asked him about the game and he said it aint hockey but I dont know what it is. He looked normal and was way out of it. Diabetes is bad shit.

I drove by where he wrecked today.
Glad he died and no one else did.

Several people were flashing their lights.
pikabiker 3 years ago
Second>>>If he had a medical issue and was going unconscious on and off, any driver would have applied the maxi. Semi-trailer have "air system" and in worse case scenario that your legs, brain or heart come and go he just had to apply the park brake with his hand. It would have locked all the wheels except steering. His hands were obviously working since he manages to keep the steering wheel straight unless his right arm was broken too???

edmonton is so intense.

anyone who thinks this happened because the driver had "diabetes" and was passed out at the wheel for 40 kms should kill themselves now. The fat bastard who said he saw him like that was in a minivan, what's he going to see.
And I'm just happy stupid died, and that he didn't kill anyone else. One less psychopath to deal with.

Incidently, the local paer stated he DID have prior accidents due to his diabeties.
mrman2u2 3 years ago
I feel for the family in loosing a loved one. The coments that all truckers are the most unsafe are extremely wrong. I drive a semi for a living and have had many near misses in this city due to the stupidity of other drivers thinking that we can stop on a dime and continue to cut in front of me just to get to the next red light. I would think that the idiots zipping in and out of traffic might think again and try doing close to the speed limit.
kimkbrown 3 years ago
I totally agree with you. I have been driving a 5 ton beverage body for fifteen years. People say to me "with all that weight you must be able to stop on a dime" some people think that big trucks=bigger brakes=stop faster.
nailsf 3 years ago
thats such a misunderstanding of physics. Ur rite, theyre 4getting that the amount of force a 5 ton vehicle has when moving 65mph is MUCH greater than a 1 ton vehicle moving at the same speed. Probably down shiftin and the pneumatic breaks are good way 2 slow down, but the long vehicle, with a pivot point and high center of gravity probably isn't helpful

i've lived in edmonton for 3 years and i've seen 3 crashes that could compete with this, from the window of the bus. Just the other night my girlfriend drove and got stuck behind a accident where she saw them pull 2 dead bodies away. Nobody can deny it happens a lot here, not just accidents but violence as well. It's really high here but to live here u just need to accept it.

autokid15 3 years ago
Chromedragon79 3 years ago
#1 just because your mom has not driven the wrong way with Diabetes doesn't mean Angiebadd is wrong.
Try reading up on Diabetes and what an Insulin attack can cause. Get your facts straight before you go telling someone to shut up or that they are wrong.
My father has diabetes, i watched him go in and out of conciousness for 3 days due to an insulin attack before he was diagnosed with Diabetes. It is very well possible that this is what happened.
velvetangels 3 years ago
Fine, even on the off chance that he did actually drive all that distance without realizing it then he shouldn't have been driving in the first place. His family themselves said in an interview that he had caused MANY crashes in the past because of this problem. If he was a responsible person he wouldn't have been driving the truck in the first place because his condition obviously made it unsafe to do so.
Chromedragon79 3 years ago
not to mention the drivers here are extremely bad and wreckless compared to other cities in canada, and the roads are almost asking for accidents to happen
Appleye 3 years ago
i think stuff like this isnt so rare in edmonton, it just never gets caught on film.. i've seen some pretty horrific car crashes that could compete with this.. it is the capital of canada for vehicle related deaths..
Appleye 3 years ago
Are you stupid? I have lived in Edmonton for 35 yrs and this is the fisrt time anything like this has happened.
nailsf 3 years ago
3 years, i've seen 1 person get shot, 1 person die while crossing the road on whyte ave, 1 stabbing in a club on a relatively early wednesday night, 1 roomate get stabbed by a group of guys in a supposedly safe neighbourhood.. that is just the violence, car crashes are much more common. You may have lived here for 35 years but how many of those years were you sleeping?
Appleye 3 years ago
you must be hanging out with the wrong crowd because i've lived here my whole life and yes i've heard of things like that happening, but still have yet to witness anything. not saying it doesn't happen but most people don't witness that many incidents.
theaviator06 3 years ago
i think most people in general dont usually see it.. i never saw it till i moved here but, i wouldnt say its cause of the crowd.. mostly either university students or people from the office i work in.

There are plenty of medical conditions that can cause someone to drive that far in an impaired state. Elevated ammonia levels in the blood from a liver condition or a diabetic could do something of the sort and can be completely unaware of their situation.
Can't rule out anything.

ResQFiftyOne 3 years ago
who fucking cares about the US???? Just a breeding ground for more fucking immigrants to make their way up here to Canada- thanks
