We are now finally able to purchase your whole set of videos (after school budget cuts), and I can't wait to get them in. Thank you for keeping them so affordable!
cheers mate, im gonna use ur lecture as mine 2morrow, im an army medic n i just got spammed to do a lesson on the nervous system, didnt have a clue but now im a pro from your video. however im not giving the credit to you or to youtube or i wud be drilled around the parade square, thnx again men
There are two different WAYS of dividing nervouse system;
1) STRUCTURAL/ANATOMICAL : a) Central NErvous system (consists of Brain and Spinal Cord) b) Peripheral Nervous system (consisting of spinal nerves and their ganglia and cranial nerves.
a) Somatic Nervous system (under voluntary control--> needed for doing things voluntarliy)
b)Autonomic Nervous system (needed to carry on body function regulation independant of our voluntary control----> we dont need to control them or be aware of them eg sweating, flushing, heart rate regulation etc).
AUTNOMIC nervous syst has two divisions: Sympathetic and Parasympahtetic.
Visceral is pertaining to AUTONOMIC nervous system.
The catch is that Sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems send off their efferents INSIDE the spinal nerves (not always though) which are ALSO carrying SOMATIC efferents and hence the overlap and confusion.
You will have to read it WELL from Keith L Moorre clinically orientated anatomy as well Gray's student edition Anatomy.
For physiology , read up from Guyton's and Ganong's (Unfortunately there is no shortcut. it is quite confusing indeed).
You will have to read up how a spinal nerve forms, and How Sympthetic nerves become incorporated into spinal nerves (the sympathetic chain and prevertebral ganglia system and plexuses).
Unless you do this well, it will always be challenging to get a grip on.
i can only RECOMMEND this-- so simple,so clear ,so much attention payed to every detail....my english is quiet bad,and still it was not a problem to understand everything !!!
Great lectures, Ive got a GAMSAT entrance exam for graduate med school in a week and your videos have been very helpful for refreshing my memory in prep for the biology segment.
excellent teacher! very brilliant.. the explanations are great and very clear.. really awesome.. i felt like a genious too after watching this lecture..remembering my college days,it's so difficult to absorb those kinds of topics.. :)
any chance you have a video on respiratory or digestive system you haven't posted yet? I'm doing that now in anatomy and you are so much better than my teacher at explaining things. I would appreciate it, thanks so much!
Thank you so much! I'm taking a summer course in Anatomy and it's kicking my butt! There is so much to remember in a short time and my teacher does not explain it as well as you. You are amazing!
wooooow......i like this really helped me

Can anyone place these words under the proper category (CNS/PNS):
Autonomic
Somatic
Parasympathetic
Sympathetic
Visceral
All the different words they use to describe the same thing is so frustrating... Im lost with the terminology.

Apologies for the typo in previous summary.
ONCE AGAIN: quick summary:
FUNCTIONAL CLASSIFICATION:
1)Somatic nervous system/voluntary nervous system
2)Autonomic: a)sympathetic b)parasympathetic c)enteric nervous system
ANATOMICAL/STRUCTURAL CLASSIFICATION:
a)CNS (brain + Spinal cord)
b) Peripheral nervous system (spinal nerves , their ganglia and cranial nerves- Basically everything else apart from CNS -brain & spinal cord).
MuhammadUmerED 1 year ago
@BenEin33
Visceral Nervous system is another common name for Autonomic nervous system since ANS has a major influence on the body's viscera.
Enteric nervous system is the innate nervous system of the GIT (GIT has a lot many viscera eg liver , intestine etc).
