  • Zen is garbage. Madhyamaka is the real stuff.

  • Like the river life flows in then passes away all is in the now.

    All else is illusion.

  • emptyzenfilm is for bitches !

  • Amazing video....

  • I don't really understand what Zen is about. But something in this video is very appealing it reminds me that I am searching for something and yet I don't know what it is?

When I see pine forests with the glow of the sunset behind it has that same draw... I wish I knew what it is that I'm searching for.... Will it be at the end of my life that I find it then... So much to be afraid of fear that intense Bible bashing has driven into me , so counterproductive, there has to be a better way

  • @buffplums To think you could understand Zen from a 3 minute video is of course impossible. It is worth your time if for no other reason than to have an understanding of what Zen is. Read a book then read many books and talk to as many people as you can but do not get attached to any one truth. Like the bird that flies about without leaving a trace or the mirror that holds no image. Train your mind to hold on to nothing then everything will be as it is. It will be like coming home.

  • @buffplums If you announce yourself as a searcher, that is precisely what you will remain. What you seek is here, now. You can't see it directly because your mind is committed to the search. I'm just the same. I blame my father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father.

  • what honkyoku is being played?

  • August Turak talks of the red hot cannonball of zen. Is his karma missing? Or was there a lwap in evolution?

  • Well, I know now what I did'nt Zen.

  • To me, Zen is like owning/riding a Harley Davidson - unable to describe, but when you do have the experience, words indescribable. It's a living experience.

  • Thumbs up if u watched this with Zen!

  • So, how does Zen feel about being excited? What is the difference between zen and just being indifferent to everything?

  • Comment removed

  • @Benjy3634 If you're going to be excited about something, than "Be" excited. Zen is the "Being" which is not indifference, but more in touch with how you feel and what you are doing...or not doing.

  • Do people who are into this not into any types of practices? I recently got into channeling and Astral Projection, and I had a successful astral journey recently.

I don't see why it could not be a zen way to go about learning of these teachings.

  • @MrGravityDance I'm reading "Journeys out of the body" right now

  • Zen Barracuda: What you say is true however we are all individuals and I'll never see how you see a chair. We have a common understanding of the chair. However the ideal chair in your eyes is always different them mine. As for copyright...... h'mmm. who cares.

  • Everything you believe to be true was passed on to you by someone else. The sum total of your knowledge is second hand. Who are you?

  • It's interesting to juxtapose modern efforts in psychology with the study of Zen. Zen explained the concepts of Maslow, Gestalt and the rest long ago, but the lack of a scientific basis kept it from recognition.

In a world ever obsessed with health, it is interesting that mental and emotional health is neglected as it is. We look to food as our cure, medicine and preventions, when it is truly the purity of our minds that brings our greater health.

  • Is this a belief or a truth?

  • @btheilen1 for some, depending on there religious rich background, they will follow/begin the practice of Zen, or other Buddhist paths with a strong faith based belief style, more or less. For me, in my case, i was privilaged of just trying it out for a season, living in Quebec Canada, in a time of great prosperity, civil peace and all. so for me, i did not choose or need much faith, because i was not in deepsht, down with sickness or very depressed. But i can see why many woud go faith wise

  • @btheilen1 For me it's a fundamental truth we've (our egos) become blind to. It's about not letting the ego cloud the mind, letting go of the ego, or seeing it for what it is. Meditation is a big part of it, learning not to strive or to learn or to try. Quieting the mind so that the truth reveals itself; that there are no "things" and that we, everything, is all part of one, everything depends/effects one-another.

  • Excellent Video! from The Koala Zendo where we "Move Slowly With Great Speed"

  • Good video and water overcomes all

  • empty mind films?? REALY??

  • @dolorabdominis Empty your mind of the chattering voice within.

  • I am a practicing Zen Buddhist and I would love to have a few subscribers. Many Thanks!

  • If my true self is merely a part of all around me, and all aroumd me is expression of unrest and ego. than how can I be at peace ?

  • @geniuz63 Be yourself.

  • @geniuz63 peace is found from within not from without.

  • @geniuz63 There is no self. Just a universe with you as an integral part of a whole. An all-ness. To see yourself as differentiated from the whole is to center your being on the ego and fill your life with delusions. Turn off the story your telling yourself about everything like switching off a TV, and then you will note that unrest and ego are as much a part of human life as anything else. We wouldn't have to strive to let go of anything if we didn't all have both unrest and ego within us.

  • When a Zen master was once asked what Zen was, he replied, "Your everyday thought." The basic idea of Zen is to come in touch with the inner workings of our being, and to do this in the most DIRECT way possible. Zen is NOT meditation. It is acquiring a new point of view for looking at things (Satori). Meditating on metaphysical statements play no part in Zen. It does not over-rely on words or logic. Words are only metaphors. Zen is the Whole Mind beyond words.

    - from D.T. Suzuki's "Intro to Zen"

  • The sound of one hand clapping = the sound of Everything As One Reality

  • Emptiness is not empty. It is the fullness before it becomes Fullness.

  • "Zen makes us live as if we are walking in the Garden of Eden."

    - D.T. Suzuki from "An Introduction to Zen".

  • "The mind should be nowhere, in particular." -Zen Buddhist saying.

  • Once the vine produces the fruit, the rain falls dry, the mountains burrow deep, what's up is below, and there is nothing not even nothing.

  • i am my own god their is none higher and i enjoy the game of self realisation very much,i have got to a level where i understand the object of the game but still can,t figure out the rules i have written down(i have a sneaky feeling this is my favourite round) if anyone of my other selfs has a clue i would most appreciate it as although i love the test i,ve set myself it can become irksome that synchronistic events are only showing me more of a rule i already comprehend, time for the next level

  • i ran out of characters so may i just add i do not want quotes from so called enlightened masters perception of truth or reality but just the the thoughts and realisations of the respondent,i do not want second hand knowledge just your own thoughts,do not regurgitate what you,ve heard just your own personal thoughts,if another being has said it i already know it i,m looking for new info, new facts which can help me desribe and understand myself ,peace out

  • i came here because i,ve had the realisation that i am all there is and ever was and finding it hard to accept i am trully alone,i hope this can help me understand the implications and find peace, this is puzzling and serene at the same time,if i,m on the wrong track and anyone can enlighten me to fact this is what zen supposes would be most grateful, but bear in mind i take no other opinion as fact unless it fits with my own reality tunnel,i believe nothing unless i feel it to be true for me

  • @FISHDINHO

    Hey! :))

You say if another being has said something you already know it. It seems that you will perhaps not find the peace and satisfaction you seek from words you read. Perhaps try bringing the things you know into your everyday life and this may bring you peace. If you're after a sure route to joy, kindness and compassion towards all living things will certainly help you. Forget yourself and make others your concern. Don't meditate waiting for bliss. Meditate to liberate others.

  • @SonnyMidnight thanks for the reply,i will take what you said on board,i realise my txts may have come across that i do not feel at peace,i have to say i do feel peacefull just that i realise the world is not at peace, this conundrum is a puzzle(lol),my connection to all makes me wonder, can i ever relax and enjoy exsistance if the other facets of myself seem in chaos, any time someone replies i remember already having thought that thru, its as if the jokes on me,peace and love

  • The past is gone and no longer exists. The future is not here and so does not exist. Only now exists. Only now ... here ... as it is.

  • Mind is a bundle of thoughts, stop thinking somehow and mind disappears, leaving pure Awareness- Peace of mind.

Then you know all is One ,all is you.its all ok.

  • Different views but the same page. Zen is everywhere.

  • I can't see the page all your comments are one! shit...

  • I Was going to leave a comment here, then I decided not to.

  • @NeptunesJupiter If one writes a comment that is not a comment, is it really a comment?

    Does that sound Zen-like?

  • @TheEirikMan If it sounds zen-like then it is. I can't really think of any examples, so I'll use this one.

  • @NeptunesJupiter what is this one?

  • whats the difference between Zen (Japanese) and Chan(Chinese)??? Zen copied Chan???

  • @q1w2e381048104

two words for the same symbol. one symbol for everything which is and was and will be, that is you and I and that and this and what never will be. categories fragment a Self which is wholly one with existence and therefore not at all

  • @q1w2e381048104 Zen came from Chan look it up on wiki too for more info.

  • Can you have a zen mind and be the best at somthing? because they oppose desire and wants but youneed to have desire and wants if you wanna suceed at somthing. like lets say a sport?

  • @SRDK6 i heard osho speak on how when 2 enlightened zen people have a sword fight, they can go on forever because neither ever makes a mistake.

  • @JackHighlander wow, , but that means they both want to win, right? or why are they fighting. i mean, you do stuff because you want to acchive somthing, thus you are hoping for a certain outcome which is opposing what the zen mind is all about, which is doing without hoping for a certain outcome?

  • Sorry, but there is more to seeing and hearing. Seeing and hearing according to the Buddha belong to the five skandhas which are always impermanent and suffering. Such is hinayana—not Mahayana which attains to pure Mind which transcends seeing and hearing.

  • Maybe it's just me, but the copyright notice at the end of this video seems pretty antithetical to everything that was said before it.

  • @dwneonstar It's not just you Bud.

  • @dwneonstar : The reason is, that the "Enlightening Market " for proletarians is very hard-fought. They try to convince them that even working like a zombie 12 hs a day, paying bills, having children and wife, a "Boss", being anxious about their professional future, their rent, health insurance and whatever is there to worry about for a worker, they have still the possibility to find their way into Zen Buddhism and still being successful in every day life.

And that is of course a Joke.

  • @dwneonstar that doesnt matter, aswell as that that doesnt matter doesnt matter aswell ...Tozan would slap you in the face...

  • @dwneonstar Go through life without attachment. See no difference between your self and others. Now pay to watch me tell you about this, and if you don't you will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

  • @dwneonstar I don't see it that way. As long as there are copyright laws there will always be someone who will trademark your work then sue you if you don't do it first. Hate the game not the player, son.

  • as always, what a wonderful, refreshing, inspiring video. Thank you.

  • my dog died today

  • @jtfles sorry to hear that

  • nice , ty 4 posting

  • interesting...we are all living interdependently

  • I have made a movie as a result of a zen-like experience. Click on my profile name to see a trailer of it and to find a link to a website describing the process. Video responses seem to be blocked here.

  • I'm confused. Hindus say self-realization is realizing you are part of the divine, and you get all sorts of occultic powers. Zens say realization is realizing you are just a cloud, just part of all there is, but you don't get to feel like God or get any special powers.

  • Whenever I hear words like "There is nothing more than this" I wonder why such a thing would be said. I do not assume he knows more than I, nor I than he, but as beautiful as the words sound I hear eyes closing.

Without love there is no loss, but neither is there passion. There is a price to living and one does not have to pay if one does not wish to live.

  • The stream will find its path,no matter what. Rgw wisest thingm you're part of all and all is part of you ;). We have to destroy current society to the ground :D.

  • Zen practice get's to a point where it's really scary, but it's beyond words once you break through the other side and everything collapses. Not bliss or release, or happiness, not nothing either.

  • @Ragleif The way you describe it, to me it actually sounds like dying...

  • @Ragleif Do you know this from personal experience? If so I'd like to hear more.

  • @Ragleif every time i feel myself becoming more 'awake' or aware, i get an overwhelming surge of fear, almost like the sensation of dying, and then i always resist it, it leaves in me total fear, i'm not sure if i am insane sometimes, or if i am on the verge of dying. part of me says i have to let it go, but its too scary, its as if i am just too sensitive to being awake, kind of like say if you were blind and you suddenly had sight the light would overwhelm you. no words can describe my terror

  • @Ragleif

its what i live for brother

  • @Ragleif so you're "enlightened?"

  • @Ragleif

the only word is "the nothingness"

  • There is some freedom in Groundlessness. We panic when there is no solid surface under our feet, or branch to hold onto for dear life. We become like milkweed pods in a cyclone. The only thing left to do is see where the wind will take us. It's a scary ride, but also has the potential to strenghten our inner core. We could see exactly what we're made of in the face of adversity. Let it ALL happen, for better or worse.

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • This is a good documentary that touches some of the basis of zen, and shows a lot of different japanese temples and teachers. Good for an introduction to the way of zen buddhism!

  • This is the very mind with which i recognize it. Seeing it is like everything else, it disappears among the many no-things!

  • I believe in Zen. I am now happy. I just found the answers to life to help me be at peace.

  • jesus mohammed are both avatars . we might never have met them at the time . things you hear and read about them these days could mean many things

  • interesting... i like this.

  • that sounds like collectivist brain washing pally

  • just be..

  • Zen body

  • RELIGION RE LIGION RE, OLD NAME FOR THE SUN LIGION YOU WILL HAVE TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH TO MANY SPELLING VARANTS ORIGINAL MEANING WILL BE HARD TO FIND COULD TRY UNDER DIFFERENT LANGUAGE

  • I discovered last night that I don't have a mind. This would worry me a bit. Except, I have no mind to do the worrying with. I think my cat stole it, thus the funny looks sometimes.

  • @jazzflutist interesting problem you got there

  • @themonkeymN : Yes, it takes a lot of non-thinking to work it out. Thus my interest in music - emphasizes feeling over thought, non-striving. Cheers man.

  • @jazzflutist you got that feeling too?? its great huh? feels like BLISS FOREVER.!

  • @bubbaross911 : Yes, I discovered that having a mind is a little too much weight to carry. (Makes one too serious and brooding). Even though the realities of life might require seriousness, there is also great Wisdom in humor (actually considered Sacred in some cultures). Loosens people up so they can actually tackle the realities with more energy and intelligence. Thanks for the reply man! Good reply.

  • good one :)))))))))))

  • good one :))))

  • @jazzflutist a modern koan. i hope you don't mind, but i intend to use this as my college student quote of the week.-with your approval of course.

  • @jazzflutist - that reminds me of trying to convey an ego-loss experience,

    "I...wait, "I" wasn't there though........."

  • Lets get high Budha!

  • i would also like to apologise i feel that rated comment of mine was taken way out of context i wasnt trying to troll other faiths...but after going through so many Youtube videos with ignorant christians or muslims going out of thr way to comment on a video that does not concern them...to leave a negative comment and tell anybody whos inclined towards buddhism that thr going to burn in hell for eternity...it got a little boring thus i went on a rant..

  • Zen is not essentially religion -- it's a philosophy. Bourne out of observing naturally occuring phenomenon.

  • YOU'RE NOT YOUR

  • Th brown poop is always the brown poop. If it turns green, then it becomes the green poop. When the poop gets wet, then this is the opposite of dry poop, which is poop without water molecules. Thus, one smells the poop with the consciousness of knowing that it can be green, brown, wet or dry. Can there exist other kinds of poop? Indeed. This is the essence of poop knowledge.

  • I hope you attain satori..and you can take a joke....lol

  • @attilaclark i wipe my bum with satori

  • White cloud , poop in bowl, beat up tree, rocks...I am white cloud, poop in bowl, Now I beat up tree. ahhh it is here .....out comes stick...

  • @attilaclark a beat up tree and some rocks is just sterile thuggishness why not look at some art ? francis bacon might be a bit to your taste, what is he saying with his pope innocenti paintings is that you ?

  • @osip7315 Take a look friend at the other branches of Buddhism and see the difference in art ...Look at my home page and you will see some incredible art work and then compare that to Zen art. NO comparison. Most people in the USA think Zen when they think of Buddhism. Where is the Bodhisatva in Zen ...its not there..Zen is at best only a HINAyana. The first patriarch in Zen the way was wide , By the third Patriach, it had narrowed, By the sixth Patriach it was very Narrow.

  • @attilaclark that sort of art is obviously well executed but it doesn't mean anything to me

blake means something to me, franz xaver messerschmidt means something to me

there's a depth to these and one can understand them, tibetan and buddhist art while decorative doesn't have that imo

  • Ok , Zen is Buddhism, humm...not quite..It's about a third Buddhism and two thirds Shinto and Daoism. If you start talking principles, out comes the stick..shut it. If you talk about energy , out comes the stick. It's about Satori. Wich is fantastic. HOwever, it used to have much more. Much of it has been lost. Zen art and gardening , is it art and gardening , NO, a beat up tree and some rocks is not a garden and a circle on a canvas is not art. Im a real Buddhist.

  • Best video on youtube.

  • well i've had a think and come up with a sort of corrected version, imo the orginal has been lost so this is like a reconstruction

the blue mountain is the parent of the clouds

the clouds are the children of the blue mountain

    endlessly denying

    yet endlessly dependent !

  • gee that tozan translation is bad, unfortunately a lot of the real sense will have been lost due to meaning involuted into the culture and time !

but when i hear zen people use thier own words they are better to stick to crappy translations !

  • @osip7315 Well, whatever the quality of translation, I like it. Having said that, would you know where I can find a better translation or do you have one? Thank you.

  • @paskamarja imo it's a pastiche or just meaningless conglomeration of words

read li po or wang wai or tu fu and you will see the difference !

  • @osip7315 Great, thanks, I will have a look :-)

  • totally shizophrenic ! why is schizophrenia the norm

well it is the norm !

  • The essence of Mind is formless, this itself is the subtle body of reality. The essence of Mind is inherently empty; this itself is the infinite body of space. Demonstrating arrays of practices is the body of reality of virtues. The body of reality is the root of myriad emanations, which are named according to the situation. Its knowledge and function are endless; this is the inexhaustible treasury. — Zen master Ta-chu (8th-century):(tr., Cleary)

  • I won't say any religion teach violence...but Budhism and Hinduism is more spritual,Mystic,Philosphical and on strict line of non violence ,love,peace...and giving...

  • there is a new fashion today : new form of nihilism : beleive enlighnment comes from body ! but this is the same filosofy than the platonic message, the catholic message : the form changed but the ideal is still here. The ideal is not in the sky but inside the body...

  • just a question? around 1:57 the narrator said "this is the way of the (daw)" what's this word? did i even spell it right? plz help thx :)

  • Comment removed

  • @soona86 He was referring to the "Tao" or the great oneness or union of the opposites yin and yang. It is pronounced like "dow."

  • @muhrvis thanks a lot :) this way of thinking is really great...is this buddhism?

  • Wax on, wax off you dumbshit

  • ISLAM RULES!

  • nice

  • I am agree to work and to understand all of our reality. If we were born in X country, with x skin color, eyes, etc. To be weak or strong. The difference is the trouble. To make difference in all things is a great trouble. To be strong and be a warrior and fight ,etc. , etc. Just to be your self is the answer to all. Just to understand , to have conscious

  • @mecanicien37 true zen is form, no emptyness. Human goal is to carry thinking, ego, self, body, problem...why do you want to throw away ego ? don't flee in weak spirituality, watch the light in the darkness !

  • @mecanicien37 yes, thinking is a tool like senses. If you drive you need senses, if you want to understand, you think. This is automatic, logical, no need effort. So you don't need to throw away ego, ego comes and go automatically too. The problem is some people believe zen is destroy ego. And that's possible, some people made it...and they called it enlighnment...but this is an emptyness enlightnment, no form enlighnment. Form enlighnment is the human goal

  • Our knowledge is different from Wisdom. Knowledge it´s a great tool, but only that!!. Example: If you work as a mechanic and you repair a car using a 10m.m. wrench. You need this tool to work and if you repaired it and go to your home with the wrench hanged in your neck to give thank to the wrench because helps you to repair the car, something in you is really bad!!. If you use the tool, you just use it for the work and leave it , when you finish. The knowledge is the tool. But many has hangedon
