The DX-7 is still an instrument with plenty of undiscovered potential due to it's non user friendly interface. Very few people know how to actually program them from scratch.
The DX7s are only hard to program if you try to use them like subtractive synthesisers. That's why it took me so long to get used to FM programming - that and the fact that I use a TX-802, which has an utterly terrible interface
