The ankles method Romain is using is the only way I have found to hit at a decent volume when playing 250 or anything around it.

i agree! he writes some pretty techy intense shit, i think however, Romaine is more creative in his style as well. Longstreth goes for endurance, but Romain goes for creativity. both have their pros and cons. i think Romain makes it look easier than Longstreth, i.e - plays more fluently

He's using Axis pedals but i don't know what kind of beaters, maybe iron cobras beater, is common that extreme drummers are using Axis, but in beaters are many diferences, its subjective,.. i love Trick beaters :)

It's hard to compare Goulon's speed to Kollias or Roddy, we would need a BPM counter. To me, they are all pretty much at the same speed... I find Goulon to be a bit more creative than Roddy, but I can't comment on Kollias due to lack of solos available on him.
And I still think you can't tell the difference at those speeds. Take flo mournier, george kollias, derek roddy and romain: You can debate all you want on speed, but the only way you'll know who is fastest is with a counter. I'm sticking with that statement, obviously you won't...
I'm a drummer too and i'm not agree with you. You can hear the speed difference between those drummers even if they're all very very very good. You just have to listen when they play and you can tell who is faster than the other.
i think roddy is much more creativer than romain if you compare songs like faceless one and I monarch (hate eternal) to songs like veils of misconception.
i also think derek is better at stuff at slower speeds (jazz etc.) like he plays in his video "derek rddoy groovin"
i do this technique too but i cant do the 5's with my feet my left foot just doesnt want to get inbetween my right when it comes to short bursts of 5 or 4... any tips?
What I love about guys like Romain, Derek and Kollias is that they make it look soo easy whent it's almost impossible to play like that. At least for a normal mortal :D
had the same problem a very long time.. fixed it by playing at least slower, like 180bpm, but more accurate and put more power into the first stroke. Putting an accent on some stroke helps too i think. And I played much of 3 fast bassdrum hits in a row. If your comfortable then raise the tempo.
Another tip is to practise you ass off! I had problems with my left foot. I did practise my ass of.. I've done it for a short time and it goes good! It needs a good warmup though... :P
In MY very own, humble, opinion, Romain is on par with Kollias

The ankles method Romain is using is the only way I have found to hit at a decent volume when playing 250 or anything around it.
Hitting lightly with triggers to get up to 270 isn't what I would consider cheating, because very very few humans can actually do it acoustic and loud enough at those speeds.
I think many drummers that use triggers could play acoustic, they just don't really care since triggers sound so awesome on a recording or live.

hello iam trying to do the ankle technique but i just cant seem to get it clean!

i do this technique too but i cant do the 5's with my feet my left foot just doesnt want to get inbetween my right when it comes to short bursts of 5 or 4... any tips?

What I love about guys like Romain, Derek and Kollias is that they make it look soo easy whent it's almost impossible to play like that. At least for a normal mortal :D

I'm practising that foot technique now, but my fucking right ancle doesn't want what I want. Anyone got a tip?:P

had the same problem a very long time.. fixed it by playing at least slower, like 180bpm, but more accurate and put more power into the first stroke. Putting an accent on some stroke helps too i think. And I played much of 3 fast bassdrum hits in a row. If your comfortable then raise the tempo.

Another tip is to practise you ass off! I had problems with my left foot. I did practise my ass of.. I've done it for a short time and it goes good! It needs a good warmup though... :P

Same here, I need to just play really slow double bass for a few minutes, then wait a little and THEN I can get started.
