@MacSolutionsPlus Thanks for your reply. I thought it was but wasn't sure. I couldn't make out the name on the areo but the back of the white trucxk led me to think it was Fix's fire. My fasther drove milk truck for Fix there back in the '50s.
that by the time you get there is fully involve because your one volunteer department covers 165 square miles. then dumping thousands of gallons of water and several hours of time. its not all its cracked up to be. bashing comments from ppl that put down a fd and the personnel and their own experience is putting out the fire pit with a garden hose after the cook out.
i love the comments bashing on the fd here. whyd he pull it on the grass maybee cause the barns right next to the driveway and you gotta have the engine there. they didnt save the barn. do you have any idea how long it takes to get to a department with ppl on the road that dont move out of your way when the blue lights flashing or just not moving for the trucks themselves. then having to drive out to where ever it may be to fight a fire
He would have had better luck pulling it STRAIGHT out, as in this video, he's at such an angle with the tractor, it almost was dragging the fire truck sideways....
NO WONDER he was spinning the tires on that John Deere !!
@mailforward4me Not so. You obviously never pulled much. When you can't move it pulling straight ( as the tire marks showed ), then you try pulling at an angle. This way you are trying to pivot the stuck vehicle and thus only are pulling the front half of the load.
@mailforward4me well if he did that he would be going straight into our garage now that wouldn't be any good especially after having our barn burn down
I got pictures of an OshKosh ARFF truck I was driving stuck in the mud...took two loaders to pull me out. All in the sad attempt to impress a girl-which didnt work.
Guess I am glad youtube wasnt around then, or for sure there would be a video posted somewhere.
Thats my barn that chain is heavy duty still got it the links themselves are about an inch and a half wide its not going to break at all. And there volunteer firemen that's why civilians are pulling it out.
In relation to my last post, city first tried to use a HUGE road grader to pull out the firetruck, one bigger than the fire truck inself with no success. They tried putting boards under the tires and everthing. The grader buried itself too but managed to free itself with it's blade but it tore up a ton of sod and caused even worse ruts in the park. It took me less than 20 mins to run lines, successfully winch and put everything away. I made 1 divet w/ my spade in the ground. These guys r idiots.
I pulled a fire truck the same size, buried even worse in soft soil. Used a Chevy Kodia 5500 w/ 2 10k lbs dual winchs. Hardly fought it. Key is, pull it straigt (least resistance), put firetruck in neutral(DO NOT step on gas at all! It only causes you to get buried more, it does nothing that'll benefit you. I planted my wrecker w/ wheel chocks and a spade on the underlift. Spinning wheels like on the tracker reduce your pulling by tons. DON"T STAND BY THE WINCH LINE. Used a remote.
Well with maybe just a little bit of offroad and bigger vehicles, i must say that farmer john was at too much of an angle... plus whoever was in the fire truck should have gunned it (yes im aware its a slow-ass diesel, but it would have helped some.
I have FIRED 2 engineers for a parking job like this and I would NEVER use civilian means to unstuck a vehicle costing $180,000 on up. All they know to do is hook chain and floor it and when the whole front end comes flying off who's payin for that, not the expert on the tractor
@kidde509 Nice to know you live in a nice3 size town where you have full time paid firefighters, why don't you move out to a small town of 300, and see who pays for our volunteer fire fighters equipment.
dont people know that chains act as whips if they break while being pulled? I wanted to see someones dome get slammed after breaking because they were being morons for standing so close.

chuckrl 1 year ago
@chuckrl Yup. The barn was gone by the time we got there but we saved the house which you don't see in the video directly behind us.

No kidding. I wouldn't use that flimsy little chain to pull out a stuck car, never mind a fire engine.
