Chen Show Mao is the kind of 'Foreign Talent' that Singapore is looking for by adding value & contributing his expertise to our society. it surprises me to know how people forget who was there to rough out the economy crisis 2 years back with Singapore and the people. I am a US-based Singaporean, with children whose situations are similar to those of CSM's son. Born in US, they are automatically granted US citizenship. As minor now [and like CSM's son, now 11] they are granted "duo citizenship". They are Singaporeans/Americans, and at a more mature age, will exercise their volition in whether to join NS. No excuses needed. I hope this brief reply enlightens you of a slightly more delicate situation not within your purview.

Perhaps you might not know the history of Singapore's politicians, if they succeed, they thrive, if not, they get nailed into very sad circumstances like some ill fated politicians. What he did was to protect his family by having them in another country while he fights in Singapore. LKY is good as a leader of Singapore, but his successors I am not so sure... Mr Chen has the attributes to be a good politician representing the people. It would be sad for all Singaporeans if he is not able to enter parliament. i think Mr Chen clearly represents those Singaporeans that leave singapore due to either similar reasons as him, or that the lack of security/opportunity in Singapore. Moreover, alot of singaporeans have a very nonchalant attitude with Singapore Politics but i believe with Mr Chen, it will at least give some "excitement" for this tough competition.

Still, the fact he isn't Singaporean-born is a prevailing factor. However, WHO granted him citizenship? Giving away and asking back for it?

Mr Chen's long sojourn in other countries is a feather in his cap, not a drawback as it is made out to be. In fact, Singapore should assidously court members of the Singapore diaspora to tap their knowledge, skills, creativity, can-do spirit and experiences that were accumulated in the international market place. Due to their international exposure, they are very unlikely to be like the proverbial frogs in the well that those born, schooled and worked mainly in S'pore are in danger of becoming.
